You need a locksmith with the correct equipment. There is no "simple code" otherwise thieves would exploit it.
Be sure and have the title available as the locksmith doesn't know if you stole the car either.
Do call many places for prices as I just found out with getting a second key made for my 99 Ranger, prices ranged from $120 to $220!
there is no fuse its hard wired in such a way only the dealer has the instrument to fix it otherwise a thief could just pull the fuse and thats no anti theft at all the wires go thru the entire car too so you cant jus snip the lead
Hi the 1998 Volvo Have OBD II and require a code reader to to read and erase code which resets the service engine soon light if you go to AutoZone they will reset it for you for free. Have a good night.
Depending on the unit, there can be a fuse behind the radio check this. If the fuse is there and ok you'll need to check the power feed to the unit using a multimeter.
There is unfortunately no "trick" for this. You will need the service light reset tool. On some other Volvo models it was possible to reset the light by holding down the reset button for the trip meter and turning the key to position II - keep holding the reset button down for about 30 seconds.
Look in the manual for the code - usually someone has written it in there. If not, call the nearest Volvo dealership and give them the VIN - they can tell you what your code is. Then, with the engine off, turn the key to the "I" position (Roman numeral one) and leave it for at least 4 hours. The radio should then read "Code. and you can enter the 4 digit number! Good Luck!
there are three different dash panels used in the volvo v70 and s70 for 1998.
2 of them are made by VDO the third is made by YAZAKI
- the YAZAKI dash has a small rubber plug just to the left of the speedometer, pop it out with a small screwdriver and and use the screwdriver to push in the button behind it then reinstall the plug
- the EARLY VDO dash cannot be reset without a factory scan tool production date before 8/97
- the LATE VDO dash can be reset, turn ignition off, press and hold trip reset button, turn ignition on (still holding button) hold for 10 seconds release when light flashes
