Starting problem I have a 1986 Toyota Celica and I am having a small problem with starting it. Every once and a while I will push the clutch down and turn the key to start it and it will not start. It will not even engage the starter. I leave the clutch pushed down and start to turn the key off and on til it will start. I have no idea where to start looking for the problem.

  • Anonymous May 06, 2010

I have the same issue and the same car; most times it starts and then nada.
Check the ground wire on your starter motor, make sure its clean and making good contact.
    or
You may need to replace the SM. altogether.

1984 Toyota celica wont start. clicking sound.

Ther is a switch either on the floor or on the clutch pedal that wears out ....it is to prevent car from starting without clutch pedal being depressed...should be simple two wire connection and ea easy replacement....I have tested them by jumping the two wires to see if car starts,,,though you should have car in neutral and park brake on to be safe....good luck...Lee

1994 toyota celica and when i step on the clutch it gets stuck

You will need to get that looked at, you probly have an problem with air transfer, Clutches use the air, or a liquid you'll have to find that out yourself, which ever one it uses. When there is an airproblem, or no clutch liquid then your clutch can get stuck, the same thing happens with brakes too. So have it checked.

Clutch pedal stays on floor when released

check the helper spring on the clutch pedal. You'll have to get down in the driver's footwell and using a flashlight look at the mechanism while you push the pedal down (and pull up). If the spring isn't missing or broken and everything looks okay, then change the clutch master cylinder. The piston in the cylinder is probably binding due to corrosion in the bore. I have an 1986 and had the same problem. Changing the clutch master cylinder fixed it.

2003 toyota celica

Your diagnosis is correct. The check valve in the fuel pump is letting the gas drain out of the line from the injector rail, and cranking for a long time then starting is indicative of this. Replace the fuel pump.
