2006 Dodge Gr. Caravan. Loud humming noise upon starting cold engine. Noise continues during acceleration, deceleration and at idle. After engine warms up - about 5-10 minutes, sound goes away and van runs perfect. Recently had alternator belt replaced, could this be the problem?
Misalignment of the belt, incorrect belt, worn or loose tensioner, Too tight of an adjustment (many service centers do this on purpose so when the belt breaks in it becomes properly adjusted, I do not believe in this philosophy), The belt is actually one long belt called a serpentine belt.....
I actually had similliar problem with 1995 Dodge Van and had Serpentine Belt replaced. Also replaced a PULLY that the Serpentine Belt goes on and at first seemed to help but within few days my vehicle still does a Screeching Noise (Usually when first starting the van and also whenever I turn the Heater ON). ? Not sure where or what my problem is but maybe your problem could be that PULLY.

Humming noise starts at about 30mph, and increases as car increases in speed. It sounds like a flywheel spinning out of control
I know this is a long time ago since this was posted but my 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan is doing the same. I thought it was the water pump, but I have no leaks and the heat is working properly. I have not had any belts changed on mine as opposed to "gdrjfisch" note above in Feb2010.
I am having a mechanic look at my van this weekend and hopefully he can solve the problem. I will post my solution once repairs are completed. Thanks! Great website.
