This is a known issue with these vehicles and results vary with a solution.
Try spraying the key with WD40 and spray wd40 inside the key opening and insert the key into the cylinder. Then wiggle the key around and turn slightly left to right to see if you can get it pop. You may have a strike plate that is out of alignment.
Also, try having someone push down hard on the trunk while turning the lock to open.
Have you tried unlocking the rear seat to allow access to the trunk? there is a manual cable/switch that will most likely have a bright colored end, pull this switch to manually open,I'm not real sure what side it is on in the trunk.
There is a panel from what I understand, that houses the PCM or BCM the back rear, by the fuel door area. It appears to be encased in a foam block wedged in the fender, by the wheel. Try unplugging 2 wire harnesses to it and try the remote. The fuse panel is located under the hood, right side, black box. I am having a difficult time finding the exact fuse or relay for you to inspect.
You got the trunk open by finding the manual lever??? If so, at this time did you see the locking mechansim and try the key to activate?
With the key off, unplug the connector. Turn the key on with out the connector connected, then turn off the key. Plug the connector back in and turn the key on and see if this resets it. If not, I honestly don't know whwere to point you for a resolution. i know these vehicles have had their share of trunk problems and it seems to be caused by many issues with difficult diagnosis.

Have you checked the fuse?
Have you verified it is a POWER issue - by probing the trunk release solenoid for 12VDC when you press the button?
Thanks!
