Beforre beginning work, purchase the specified transmission fluid and filter. The filter will come with a new pan gasket and sealer.
1. The fluid should be drained immediately after the vehicle has been driven. More sediment and contaminants will be removed with the fluid if it is hot.Warning :Fluid temperature can exceed 350-degrees F in a hot transaxle, so wear gloves when draining the fluid.
2. Raise whehicle and support it on jackstands.
3. Possition a drain pan capable of holding six quarts under transaxle. Be careful not to touch any of the exhaust components.Remove transaxle drain plug, let the fluid drain into the pan.
4. Remove all of the pan bolts sxcept for the tree at the driver side corner. You'll need 10 mm wrench for the bolt at the front corner on passenger side and a 10 mm socket and universal adapter for the bolts above crossmember. Unscrew the tree remaining bolts two turns, but leave them in place to support the pan.
5.Carefully separate pan from the transaxle case and alow the fluid to drain out. Try not to splash fluid as the gasket seal is broken and the pan is detached.
6. Inspect the magnets inside the pan. Fine powdery material on the magnets are normal, but if there are fragments of metal, the transaxle should be inspected by Ford dealer or qualified transmission shop.
7. Scrape all traces of the old gasket from the pan abd the transmission case, then clean the pan with solvent and dry it with compressed air. DO NOT use rag to wipe out the pan(Lint from the rag could contaminate transaxle).
8. Remove the filter bolts and detach the filter. You'll need 10mm universal socket to remove the bolt directly below crossmember. Note that the bolt on the driver side and to the rear secures wirring harnes retainer. Discard the filter and the seal.
9. Attach the new seal to the filter then bolt the filter to transaxle.
10. Position new gasket on the pan, then hold te pan against the transaxle case and install the bolts, tighten pan bolts to the tourque between 22 to 30 in-lbs. Don't owertighten bolts.

What does code P1728 mean & how can you fix it on a 2001 Dodge Durango?

It is a transmisson problem. Have you changed the oil filter in it recently? The problem seems to be pressure related. Something like a seal or something deeper like the computer not responding fast enough. Hopefully its simple as a seal on o ring around the fliter or somewhere else. Good luck

I am trying to change my transmission fluid and filter, but I can't find where the fliter is located. Any ideas where it is and how to do it

I believe it is in the transmission. not 100% sure because I only know of the oil filters and drive a manual transmission truck. i do believe you have to remove the transmission though.

Want go into reverse gear

hate to be the bearer of bad news friend but 99.9% of the time, reverse is the first gear to go out in a transmission.

Need to check the transmission fliter

The filter is a square object inside the transmission. You take the pan off to access it.

I change the transmission fliter and put new transmission fluid .... I put my foot on the gas when i hit 25 mph it start sliping my 1993 bmw 325i ..these never happen before what can i do!!

Are you sure you use the right type of fluid, and have you let it warm up and checked the level with the engine running?
I would only use the recommended oil suggested by BMW.

Try manually shifting it?
Also, is there any chance you disconnected a wire or hose to the transmission valve body when you had the pan off?
Or any chance you got some dirt inside?

Re-check the transmission fluid level. It's possible that the level has "settled" due to the work that you did on it, and may be low now, even though it appeared normal when first topped off.
Just a thought.

My jaguar x type 2.0 auto is leaking transmission fluid and there was smoke coming from the vehicle as i drove it. Its a 2002 model what could be the problem?

front pump seal is leaking or oil pan seal is leaking and hitting the exhaust pipe. time for a transmisson oil change and fliter replacement. costs about $200.00 at any tranny shop.

Cant get top gear when engine warmed up 280se 126 1984

ok.. so find the transmission dipstick and pull it out with the engine running, if the fluid is red...very red like blood red then you probably need a transmission flush make sure the flush includes the transmission fliter changed. if its dark or brownish color...sadly you will probably need a transmission..if it's low on fluid ,add trans fluid ... a junk yard unit should be no more than 500 dollars
