I am not sure if that model was fitted with an Idle Air Control valve or whether it used a throttle body with a stepper motor to control the idle speed.
If it is fitted with an IAC it should be fairly simple to spot from a cursory examination of the engine.
have IAC valve removed and cleaned. After cleaning, start and let engine idle without increasing rpm three times for computer memory to store idle setting.
This is called surging, and can have a number of causes. 1. There's a leak/crack in a vacuum hose. Check and replace as needed. 2. The throttle body IAC motor is jammed or busted. Usual cause is a build up of carbon and oil sludge in the throttle body (TB). The fix is to pull the TB off and thoroughly clean it. The build up can also indicate high oil use.
For a 10 yo car, its probably done around 150,000km, and the valve guides and seals are worn. Do a compression test. Follow the car and see if it blows blue or black smoke on acceleration. Worn guides may also cause the engine to fail an emissions test. The fix, if you are so inclined, is to pull the head, get it overhauled and put it back on. You may decide that this car is not worth buying.
If you are referring to P1507 (poor idle), check the IAC valve. That is usually behind the problem. Clean
IAC valve using carb cleaner Check the parts comprised in IAC system
(valve, connector, wiring, solenoid). Use the carb cleaner also to clean throttle
body. Check that everything is OK in the air intake (no broken parts)
and try replacing filter.
Sometimes it is difficult to test in full the IAC valve. Try performing the general testing described summarily here.
If that does not reveal any problem but still is very low, clean
throttle body, MAF and air intake temperature sensors, replace air
filter, check air intake and finally get back to IAC valve and replace
it.

Your IACV idle air control valve has gone bad . When you put the car in gear does it take off and accelerate to about 50 MPH without touching the gas pedal ? Had the same problem. Part from Mitsubishi is about $435 PN # MR578268. It is about $30 to $50 dollars on any other car. If this is the problem, the IACV is located on the throttle body and is held on with three screws. I purchased the whole throttle body at a salvage yard for $40, took the IACV off and put it on my throttle body. Car works normal for now, I am looking for another spare. If enough people complain to MItsubishi and www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov
Your Idle Air Control (IAC) valve may be dirty with carbon, simple fix with throttle body cleaner through the IAC passageway through the throttle body. Make sure it's throttle body cleaner and
not carburetor cleaner, the carb cleaner is to corrosive to the gaskets used on the throttle body.
If cleaning the IAC does not help, then it's a good chance that the IAC is to far gone and will need to be replaced.

Might be a dirty IAC idle air control valve. When starting up and it is struggling to idle does the car have a tendency to cut out if for example you turn the front wheels or put a foot on the brakes. If so, this looks like an IAC problem. Generally the fix is very easy and just requires the IAC to unbolted from the throttle body and cleaned with carburettor choke cleaning spray and then wiped down with a cloth. Once cleaned like new check the IAC ports on the throttle body itself and clean these. Make sure that everything dries off, reassemble and that should be it
If it's not idling and has problems starting, it's probably the IAC motor. It's located on the throttle body. Follow the airfilter box all the way to the engine, where the rubber flex hose attaches. The throttle body should be the first aluminum part you come to. Attached to the side you'll find small little aluminum part with a small wire harness attached. Unplug it, take the IAC motor off and clean inside with carb cleaner. This should fix the problem with the idle.
you can't put the transmission fluid in yourself on an auto or manual transmission for a 2002 lancer es. It has to be injected into the transmission through a nipple that is on the transmission.
