The HHR does not have a latch release like many other cars. All you need to do is push the fill door in and it will "pop" out so you can open it completely. When you close the door, push it firmly and it will snap flush.

The gas smell may be from filling the gas tank too much. When filling tank, do not over fill tank. when the fuel nozzle clicks off the first time do not add more fuel. It will back fill into the emission evaporator canister and therefor smell like gas fumes until the fuel tank get's lower. on a hill the gas in the tank may flow into the opening of the evaporation canister. I have had this happen and thought it was a leaking fuel line. Don't over fill Fuel Tank...

My Honda Accord latch is broken. I can not open the gas tank door and the trunk won't close. It has to be a problem in the latch because it controls both gas tank door and trunk door

emergency release should be in the trunk as for the closing of the trunk, you need to disconnect the cable at the trunk latch until you can get it fixed

I have a 95 4runner 6v fuel is leaking under the back right side after pumping full tank. Why? What could the problem be?

Hello, You need someone to go beneath your car to check this out. You can have a rusted gas tank, a bad gasket on the fill tube or the vent tube could be bad.

There are metal clamps on many of the hoses in the fuel system. Your car is 16 years old and a clamp could have rusted off. There is the possibility of GAS theft if you have a locking or latched fuel door on the vehicle. Someone could have puntured the gas tank and left an open hole in it.

If that is found to be the cause, contact your car insurance company about theft damage to your fuel tank. Your comprehensive insurance should cover all or part of it.

Can't get gas into my 2002 Hyundai Accent.

The reason the gas station pump shuts off is when the fuel reaches the tip of the gas nozzle, so when you are filling your car and the gas nozzle (gas stations pipe) keeps shutting off it means that the pipe that runs to the gas tank is not open completely, what happens is when you pump the gas in the car the supply pipe from the gas tank opening to the tank fills up quickly and this causes the gas station pipe nozzle to shut off, have some body take down the gas tank and have a look at the gas tank opening and also gas supply pipe that runs from the gas filler opening ( on the car body) to the gas tank. Have a look at it and please don't forget to rate the answer if it was helpful, thanks!

Can,t open gas tank latch

The cable hooks up to the latch under your left foot and goes back to the latch on the gas fill door. I believe you can take the trim loose from the trunk to see what the cable is doing. May have snapped or something on the latch near the fuel door broke. You should be able to manually open the door.

91 tercel gas fill door won't open

Rather than deal with trying to get in the cramped side fender space via the trunk to tighten the cable,
I just I unscrewed and took off the latch to the fill door
(after opening the latch by accessing it through the trunk).

Not quite a full solution, especially if theft of gas, etc is a problem where you park,
