Any battery retail store will check the battery free and tell you if it good or bad. If it is good test the alerrnator and the voltage regulator.

Alternators charge batteries in vehicles. Have you checked the alternator in your eleven year old car? If the alternator is working, the next thing to check is the regulator. Unless you have the special tools and equipment required to check and replace (volt/ohm meter, collection of wrenches) you should probably take your car to the your mechanic.

Bad battery?

bad alternator?

If you have a voltmeter, measure the battery with the car off. Voltage should be about 12.

Start the car, now measure the voltage, if the alternator is good the voltage should be over 13 volts.

If you don't have a voltmeter, go to Autozone, Checker......for free diagnosis.

My spouse had to get out 1996 ford explorer boosted while i was at work,so that evening i tested the battery it had a charge of 12.4 and is about 5 years old so i bought a new battery ,i put the new...

A new battery should have approx 12.62 fully charged
It could be slightly more
If you ever see 13 volts, on an old battery, it is gone

You need a min of 12.5, to do any testing of your vehicle, or you charge it
It should hold 12.5 or more for 3 or 4 weeks, then charge, if you let the truck sit
unused.

Sounds like your alternator isn't charging your battery.

Dash says battery not charging

Alternator is what charges the battery. The alternator isn't putting out enough of amps to charge your battery and you will get a light or gauge reading that the voltage is low.

325ci wouldn't turn on so I got a jump and then when I turn it of

A working alternator can try to charge a bad battery but won't. Have the battery and charging system checked with a machine. Also note: your alternator is not designed to charge a battery. It is made to maintain the state of charge present in the battery. If the battery has been drained, then jumped, the alternator can put a surface charge there but will never fully charge the battery...This is only done with an external battery charger. Not doing this will over-work the alternator and shorten battery life!

Battery is dead 2004 nissan frontier v6

Check the alternator and battery clemmas/wires coming from alternator. It looks like no charge from it coming to battery. If it is second battery already this is the sign. You can do it free of charge at autozone store. But any way as a temporary solution you can buy battery charger ($25 walmart) and charge the battery back if battery is damaged you will see it right away (it wont be charging). After you charge battery back start the engine run it for 30 minutes (if Alternator OK it is enough to charge battery back), stop and start again. If no start alternator is a problem.
