you cannot check the oil a light will tell you as and when it needs oil which is a dealer only type job ,so its a expensive business .sorry to bring you the good news

your owners manuel shoul tell you the recomended oil , the auto parts store can also tell you for free sometimes its best to write down the fin number if you dont know engine size etc.

So add some oil. These need special oil, I think Mobil 1 is what you want, the owners manual will tell what weight.

Full synthetic only. Mobil 1, 5w-30. or Castrol. use Castrol. Every 15,000 or annually which ever comes first. DIY and save a bundle.

Usually the specs are located in the owners manual. It tells you the grade and amount of oil required on an oil change. If the specs are not in the owners manual, you can look at the oil fill port on the engine and normally has the recommended grade of oil. Otherwise, see if you can get your hands on a service manual. You must use 5w\40 or 10w\40 remember BMW recommends castrol for engine oil
