I recommend for future issues you seriously consider
looking into joining... The wealth of information is
really quite EXCELLENT... or buying your own set of
FACTORY WORKSHOP REPAIR MANUALS.

For these issues... (I doubt they are related)
Starting with a GREAT CIRCUIT DIAGRAM
would be the best approach...

I PREFER PROFESSIONAL GRADE FACTORY
repair manuals ... but FREE circuit drawings & your 22 TECHNICAL Service Bulletins (TSBs) can be found

I did find a TSB on "BLANK DISPLAY" ... Ironically the
TSB page was also blank (GM humor ..
(I presume)).

The FUEL GAGE seems to be a popular part...
(typically means "unreliable: great point to START").

popular part are in the ACTUATOR DOOR sections of your parts catalogs...

Those service windows are lit by tiny halogen lamps. Unfortunately, they can be a bear to get at. You will need to remove the front of the dash to gain access to the lamps. If you decide to do the job, do yourself a favor and replace ALL of the lamps while you have the dash apart.

I don't know about the fuel data issue, but the climate control module has failed.

If its a digital dash not that this sounds good but smack the dash right in front of the steering wheel a few times and if it clears up or makes it do other things it needs a new instrument cluster.

hey have you taken it to autozone and had them do a free diagnostics on the car then can tell u exactly what the problem is i am suspecting a computer issue

check your fuses it might just need a new 20 amp fuse which is a little "U" shaped yellow thing

This is defenetly the BCM, I had a 1990 with all of the same problems. Buy a rebuilt and install it behind the clove box. Remember that you must install you memory prom into the new unit as they don't come with any in them (it is what is memorizing your miles driven.) You will get off pretty easy on this one as they are available and not too expensive.

I am currently working on my 92 Deville with the same problem. I was driving along, and smelled what I felt was a smoking printed circuit board. I looked down, and the digital fuel data center and climate control panel were dark.

I have the factory shop manual, and with the aid of a meter and the manual, I traced the problem to a bad BCM. The 16v supply coming from the BCM was gone. Opened up the BCM and found an overheated transistor. I also removed the fuel data center and the Climate control panel. The fuel data center panel did not smell good. I found a shorted capacitor on the Fuel data center circuit board. I am replacing the capacitor, and will be picking up a used BCM at the boneyard tomorrow. I might also have an overheated wire in a cable that might have to be replaced. I have not gotten that far in the troubleshooting yet.

the climate control is intergrated through the pcm and ecm i would advise you to take the vehicle to the service shop they have a diagnostic scanner that will access the ecm and either clear a code that prevents the climate control from working or find a more severe problem that requires you to replace the hole unit. please rate this solution. thank you and good luck.
