LOW OIL LITE COMES ON WHEN RPM REACH 2000

sounds like the oil is staying in the head
and not returning to the lower end fast enough
the oil returns are clogged and restricting the flow.
The fix for this is remove valve cover clean returns
change the oil and filter reinstall valve cover.
If you do not know what you are doing take it to a mechanic.

2000 VW Passat 4 cylider turbo automatic- motor seems to shake when switching from drive to reverse and vice versa.

Check motor mounts, check CV joints both of thees issues can cause the engine to stutter or shake the other possibility is a fault in the overdrive system of the transmit ion
if you have overdrive . also engin idle should be about 500 to 700 rpm normal any higher will case an abruptness .

1998 VW Passat 1.8T is hard to start then idle is too high

Check the engine code. If It is P0103 then your mass air flow sensor is messed up. Also the wiring on the 1.8T deteriorate easily. Finally, you might have a vacuum leak. Check the hoses in and out of the intake box.

Turbo lag and lack of power

Hi,
This is the second Vw I have responded to in a fortnight.
Your lack of power I presume always happens when the glow plug light illuminates?
This is because it is causing over combustion to vaporised diesel, I would be looking in the Glow plug timer and relay, as for Turbo lag, I run a E34 6 cyl Bmw Diesel and the Turbo only kicks in around 2,500ish so maybe yours is a little tired or in need of a check up?
Hope this helped,

VW Passat turbo broken

Pricing for the replacement will vary widely based on who does the work, but you'll typically find better prices at an independent shop than at a dealership. When you choose an indie shop though, make SURE they're a Euro specialist. You honestly don't want a guy working on your high-tech turbo engine when he spends his days wrenching on Mustangs and Chevy trucks. As for whether you have to do it - yes you do. The turbo is an integral part of the car and the car won't run well at all (and will likely degrade further) if you don't fix it.

Engine swap

Generally it is not recommended using parts either that the ones designed for same model, however some Passat engine connects same way as Golf. You need to know the Passat engine year and verify engine mounting procedure and connections positions. Getting the two Haynes manuals for the two VW models can help you to compare.
