It is either your Vehicle Speed Sensor (easy to change) or your Automatic Transmission Computer (capacitors burn out on these boards, there is a fix for this too, the picture is at the bottom of this page). You need to diagnose by removing the lower right plastic kick panel on the passenger side. There you will find a blue plug. With the car OFF stick a paper clip, wire or stuff the plug with foil to make electrical connection so that the two terminals are touching. Then, turn the ignition to ON (not enough to start it though, just power it up). When you do this, count the blinks in the "S Light" or count your blinking Check Engine Light. Both are different but can refer to different things wrong with your car. A long blink is the first number and the short blinks that follow are the second number.
So imagine this as being 14 : ___ _ _ _ _

Below is a decoding chart:

The first section will be the check engine light codes1991 accord, auto trans: green sport light is - 2_bing.gif, the next one is the Transmission Control Unit Codes read from the S Light;

My transmission will only use 2 and 3rd gear and i have too shift it my car is a 90 honda accord the green sprt shift light stays on

Generally autos love clean transmission fluid and periodic cleaning and adjusting.
Suggest you drop the transmission pan and give everything a good clean and blow out followed by some nice clean trans fluid.
If it smells like burnt clutch and there are black particles present the bands may need replacing.
After everything is clean, and if it is still playing up, check continuity in the " sport " switch to ensure it is working properly. If switch is ok start looking for damaged wires.
Happy hunting

Honda accord 1991 shifter has a sport shift option, button. It will not come out of sport shift. It has auto trans.

It sounds like your tcm (transmission control unit) is going bad or it already is, at times when this happens you may also experience the trans not shifting or it gets stuck on a higher gear and will have to shift manually from 1-D.Usually this happens when it's really bad.

Sport shift warning light

This light will come on when you need to service the trans or there is a problem. the tcu is a problem on 90-93 accords and some other hondas. Are you having any trans problems if not you soon will check your fluid and the color.

My 1991 honda accord auto trans with sport gear runs great except after i replaced the speed sensor when i put it into d4 it barely moves like trans is slipping. fluid is good and new. i removed the main...

Your computer is reverting (when you pull the fuse) to a pre-programmed mode that is meant to simply run your car without the input from various sensors. I would make sure that the sensor I replaced was the correct one for the model and engine. Beyond that there are a number of items that would affect the way your car runs, but not many that affect the way the transmission shifts. Is your D4 light blinking at all? If so, that means there is a transmission problem.
I hope this is of a little help.
