The car is now quite old, and the yellow gear ("cog") light indicates that the hydraulic pressure in the transmission is incorrect. Check fluid level and, if the fluid is murky or off-color, have the transmission serviced and the filter replaced.
A ROUND YELLOW CIRCLE LIGHT WITH LINES ON EACH SIDE MEANS BRAKE PROBLEMS FRONT BRAKES OR REAR BRAKES HAS A FAULT. NOW IF CIRCLE HAS LINES INSIDE YOUR POWER STEERING FLUID LOW NEED CHECKING.THE WARNING LIGHT WILL TURN OFF WHEN PROBLEM FIX.
Brake pads
●
Have the brake pads checked
immediately.
For your own safety: use only
brake pads that BMW has
released for your particular vehicle
model. BMW cannot evaluate nonapproved
brake pads to determine if
they are suitable for use, and therefore
cannot ensure the operating safety of
the vehicle if they are installed.<
sounds like your brake lining light. It means your brakes have worn below specification. The light to me kinda looks like a yellow circle with two dashes on one side and two on the other and they follow the curvature of the circle. On an x3 you can get a pretty good view of the brake pads looking through the wheel.
If you log onto this site, it can provide a free download of the original manual, which would show all dash symbols and what they mean. Good luck, Curt https://www.bmwusa.com/Secured/Content/Forms/Login.aspx
