Its most likely an emmision issue like a cloggd catylytic convertr or oxygensensor. the first should b replaced and the sensor get new only if heating element is bad...it can b cleand
Try running fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank. A fuel injector might be stuck open, letting lots of fuel into the engine. Also try replacing your fuel pressure regulator, and inspect the fuel tank return lines. Good luck Matt
Good Evening. Even though there are 3 types of engines in the 04 Impala their localities are all the same. The upstream oxygen sensor is down on the rear exhaust manifold, and the downstream oxygen sensor is located under the vehicle behind the catalytic converter. They make special sockets for them and i would HIGHLY recommend using them. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.
douple ck all the ground wiresto engine,trans bell housing ,battery or frame/firewall look for any that may have separated from any pack of wires or broken off eyelets then thightnen all points,,.these grounds are very important to comp/injection controls and can cause a multi code problem like yours.
