Just had the same problem today...there is a small square false door just below the D on the shift plate...the tow guy put a pen into that door and i was able to shift it out of park. now the car won't shift gears as i drive because the car is in 'safe mode'. disconnect the battery to correct. the shifting issue is still unsolved but it appears to be an electrical issue in the transmission but NOT the actual transmission. hope this helps

first, most inexpensive and do it yourself solution is the 'brake light switch' $20-35 and 30 mins fix. don;t let the MB dealership tell you you need a new shifter and plate for $$$$ b/c "you got it wet" try this first. the car is in "limp mode" to shift out of park use the pen and stick it in to the release window below the D-drive on the shift plate. but before any of it, disconnect the battery to get it out of "limp mode"

Hi, I have a 02 Mercedes and im having trouble with the shifter. It only lets me go into drive and nuetral no park or reverse, I was reading what you wrote when the other person posted about the thier shifter. I need more clarification. (excuse me im a femaile in desperate need of my car to be repaired without spending 900+) Sooo the brake ligt change and unhooking of batttery is a quick fix ? or just the battery. Thanks in advance for your help

My 1999 clk 320 suddenly will not shift out of 3rd gear, its been going good for 184000 miles and all service has been done by a mercedes mechanic

sounds like the transmission is in limp home mode where it won't shift out of second gear. this is a fail safe mode. If the check engine light is on too then its probably not seeing one of the speed sensors in the transmission. Just need to have the codes pulled in the transmission control module.

Mercedes clk 320 will not start

i have a 2000 clk320. it would not start sometimes, the engine would crank but it wont start. but after an hour or so it would start. sometime i'll get somewhere park, and come out an hour later and the engine would not start. if your having the same problem, take it to autoparts store ex: autozone or kragen. they could check your battery for free. and if its not the battery. than it could either be your fuel pump. or the crank position sensor. good luck. hopefully this help.
