My clk 320 mercedes wont shift into gear? what is wrong?

Hi, I have a 02 Mercedes and im having trouble with the shifter. It only lets me go into drive and nuetral no park or reverse, I was reading what you wrote when the other person posted about the thier shifter. I need more clarification. (excuse me im a femaile in desperate need of my car to be repaired without spending 900+) Sooo the brake ligt change and unhooking of batttery is a quick fix ? or just the battery.
