Replace lambda probe expensive but it will run ok after that, i dont know if you know how they work so here's a brief: lambda tells ecu how rich the exhaust gasses are, ecu ajusts fuel input as neccasery eg lambda says not anough fuel ecu puts more in and the other way round.
so if your lambda is covered in **** when you get it out just clean and put it back, if it looks clean enough it needs replacing!! jezza

Volvo v40 2000nx reg 1.8 NON gdi engine constant high rpm can having no thermostat cause constant high rpm or can a briken lambda sensor cause high rpm cleaned all throttle body cleaned idle valve checked...

Yes, having no thermostat can cause the car to run fast as it will still be set in it's "warm up" mode and will be injecting a richer mixture of fuel/air into the cylinders. There may be an additional cold start injector that just works while the engine is cold. You will probably use more fuel like this. It's not a great idea to run with no thermostat anyway because you get uneven hot and cold spots around the engine which is bad for it. Cheers

I have a v40 1.8 gdi x reg 75k but on tick ova the revs go up and down and sumtimes stalls can any 1 help please

It is most likely to be the throttle housing and idle control valve that needs a good clean, Gdi's are prone to coking up and cleaning these parts usually solves idling problems!

I have volvo v40 1.8 gdi 2002 ,it cuts out it doesnt idle,i replaced mass air flow meter, ignition coil pack, fan belt, thermostat, drive shaft sensor had full service ,new battery, but it still cuts...

agree, idle control valve is a stretch. I would check the EGR valve for proper operation and clean the hoses if they are dirty. If not that, maybe the MAP sensor is off. Does it cut out when you open the throttle or even when you just stop at the intersection?

Volvo v40 direct injection(early 2000)rich running.lumpy idle.had to replace lambda again 2nd year in a row to get it through mot.still the same.bought a new cat. anyone know which sensors play up? perhaps...

hi the MAF is more than likley to produce the wrong fuel to air mix, all the lamda realy does is keep an eye on the burnt fuel deposites and then sends the signal back to the ecu, which in turn then opens or closes the mixture , but if it is sending the correct signal and the MAF is not reading it right this will in turn cause your system to run either lean or rich, it may actually not be faulty as such , as it is still working according to the ecu so you wont get any error codes hope that helps sorta

Poor /no acceleration

THE GDI ENGINE SUFFERS FROM EXTREME "COKING" - DEPOSITS THAT STICK AROUND THE VALVES AND PREVENT PROPER OPERATION, RESULTING IN POWER LOSS. REPAIR CAN BE EXTENSIVE AND COSTLY ESPECIALY IF YOU START TO HEAR A RATTLE ON IDLE. THE FIRST STEP I WOULD SUGGEST IS, TRY USING FUEL ADDITIVES SUCH AS WURTH FUEL/GAS/VALVE TREATMENT THESE ADDITIVES ARE QUITE CAPABLE OF CLEARING OR CLEANING CONTAMINATED PARTS IN TIME.
