There could be any number of problems that would cause this. Check the easiest first ( is the fuel pump working ). When you turn the key to the run position you should hear a short humm. This is the fuel pump. If you have a loose ignition coil this will cause the car to turn over but not start. Check that the wiring is attached and snug. If it comes off easily then it's loose.
you will have to test fuel pump open gas cap listen carefuly have someone turn the ignition switch to run not start when key is on you will hear a humming noise only works for 1-2 sec try three times if you dont hear a humm then fuel pump isnt working
with some one turning the key and some one at the fill tube where you put gas in. With your ear close to the fill tube the other person turn the key on you should hear a loud humm. If you dont hear the humm i would probally guess on it being the fuel pump in the tank. A another way to check to see is locate the fuel rail and on the fuel rail there is going to be a tire valve stem cap unscrew that turn the key on and see if there is pressure by pushing the center and see if there is pressure . Now there is gas in the line and if there is pressure it is going to come out pretty fast so be careful. So that is the two ways to check to see if you are getting fuel to the engine.
Probably the neutral safety switch. With your foot on the brake, try moving through the gears as you hold the key to start. Do It Yourself Diagnosis and Repair
Check your ignition switch (located on the steering column under the dash) If this is working, you will hear an electronic switch click when you turn the key on - if you do hear it then replace your starter
Start with fuel system. Listen for fuel pump humm at fuel tank No humm check wiring to pump for power. Then check for spark at plugs and wires. Remove wire from coil and hold near engine and see arch when you crank. No arch. Replace ignition Modular inside distributor cap or cap or rotor
Ok then, from your description and the
make/model/year of the car you have there,
it appears you've reset the VATS.
The car's security immobilizer
reader at the key switch
does not recognize the coded
chip in the ignition key any longer.
You can try to put the key
in the ignition, turn to the on position &
wait at least 10 min like that.
(Do not turn off the key switch before
10 minutes as elapsed!)
Once done, the key is re-programmed and
should allow the fuel injectors to work again.
The car would start now if corrected.
In some cases, the VATS (GM'S VEHICLE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
will re learn the code this way, and will then
allow the restart, however if this does not work,
then you can simply tow it to any GM vehicle dealer
to have the service department re code it.
There is a permanent solution though.
Adding the PLJX Self learning Bypass module (59.95)
will bypass the PASSLOCK system in your vehicle
for good. See this at www.PASSLOCK2.com
Good luck I hope method 1 does the trick!
Here is the 30 min relearn:
Ignition keys relearn takes about 30 min to do. 30-Minute Learn
Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to
start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not
start. 3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10
minutes, the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and
wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a
total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes. The vehicle is now
ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or
passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK Important:
Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock
Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition
from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to
start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the
Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. 7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs
will self clear after 100 ignition cycles. Without a scan tool you may
have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself.
This may be a result of no fuel or no spark. To test, remove a spark plug after turning the engine over for a few turns and smell it. If it smells like gas, it's a spark problem, if not you should check your fuel lines for leaks or your fuel pump. A quick way to test the fuel pump is to put the key in the ignition, turn it to "on" but don't try to start the car and listen for the pump to "prime" the system. It will sound like a low humm.
To check for spark, remove a plug and hold it against the engine block while someone tries to start the car (only turn the engine over once or twice while doing this!). If you are getting spark, you should see it. If you aren't, check the firing order, the distributor cap/coil packs, wires, and the plugs themselves.
Do you have a Chip in the Key? if so that Could be the Problem,Ya see the chip is a resistor and if it looses its ELECTRONIC VALUE in its Case Resistance it wont start to test this Turn the Key in the ON posission then do the Screwdriver thing If it Starts Key is Good and Most Likely the Ignition (SWITCH) is Bad <<ELECTRICAL Side NOY LOCKEST SIDE For More Info Recontact Me [email protected]<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
