It may not be the key. You might need a new ignition barrel. Having a lot of weight hanging off your keys can cause this to happen sooner.

Lost key had one made it turnsover but wont start thieft light flashes

It probably wont start. Im guessing, but you probably have a chip in the key that you lost, and the copy you made or had made doesn;t. Those keys are for getting in your vehicle, and won;t start it. Sorry but the solution to your problem is that you need to get a chipped key, usually at your auto dealer. They are not cheap either. so i hope that this sheds some light on why your car wont start. Good luck~!!!

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE security system wont let car start

first most GM OEM systems will need to recognize the key first and foremost ,to do that you will need to roll window down on driver door, turn the key to the run position and with engine NOT running leave the key on for 10 minutes exactly ..then turn ignition off then try to start engine. if original system is working engine should start normally

My nissan interstar van wont start like battery dead and its charged fully

Battery with a dead cell can still show 12.5-13.8 volts but when any draw is put on it will drop voltage like a rock such as cutting on the headlights. They may look ok to begin with but will dim very quickly. I would start here by having the battery load tested.

Can the pcm cause the starter not to turn in my 2000 dodge neon?

Is it getting fuel? Check the pressure regulator or the fuel pump. Even if you have the plug wires on wrong it should do something.

The key wont turn

With this year model it is most likely the key and lock barrel are both worn so they don't match anymore. Take the key to an auto locksmith and explain. He can cut another key with a little extra metal on the profile to get started, but most likely you will then need a new barrel and key fitted.

The dealership cut a new key for my car (mine was taken from the gym by someone - probably by mistake) and told me that I would have to "reset" the car. The directions I was given took 30 minutes to...

you have to put the key in the ingnition and turn it to the on position (rite before the start possition) and walk away for about 20 min then go and start the car if this does not work then the key they cut isnt going to work for your car and thge whole ingnition switch will have to be switched out

My ignition key wont start my car

if you get under the dash there are two very small white wires in an orange sheath and they go from the steering column to a 15 pin connector. these are the wires that read the key resistor. so you need to get a electrical meter and read the resistance of the pill in the key then get a resistor at radio shack of the same resistance and cut the two wires leaving the wires long enough to connect the resistor.. connect it to the ends coming from the 15 pin connector not the column. this replaces the resistor in the key so you dont need the special key anymore either.

Key problem

Seems like what they did was had the car anti theft system reprogrammed to the new key only. Your car has a transponder anti theft system on it. What this does is your old key has a chip in it that when you put it in the ignition it emits a certain frequency picked up by the car. when the frequency matches the car, the car starts, when it doesnt your car will not start or not stay running very long such as your case. I would get ahold of the dealership and have your keys reprogrammed (unless your ok with using the new one the towing company made). Good luck to you and thanks for using fixya!

Sincerely,

JC
