I have an 1989 GMC Sierra K1500(4x4)5-speed. This is the Problem...when I try to start going in first gear it makes a grinding noise, if I get the gas/clutch ratio just right it won't do it, also when I change gears and accelerate it makes the same grinding noise. When I put my hand(to feel for vibrations)on transfer case lever I can feel a vibration, can't feel vibration when shifting gears via stick shifter
It may be the transmission input shaft bushing or bearing, located in the rear of the engine crankshaft, in front of the clutch assembly. If the bushing or bearing is dry (needs to be greased), the input shaft will still try to turn with the engine rpm, even though the clutch pedal is depressed. Also, the clutch disc may not be fully releasing, which could possibly be corrected by adjusting the clutch pedal linkage. good luck

I would take it in to a shop and have a free brake inspection done. They will give you a list of things wrong , and you can go from there.

CHECK YOUR UNIVERSAILS COULD BE WORN OR DRY U NEED TO PULL OUT THE SHAFT TO CHECK PROPLEY CHECK FOR STIFFNESS AND NOTCHEY MOVEMENT

Your trouble is most likely not in the transfer case but in the front differential engagement solenoid.
