1998 toyota rav4: prob with 4WD

1998 toyota rav4: replaced clutch; now 4WD won't fully disengage. when 4WD is off, there is a constant beeping which stops if 4WD is turned on. doesn't handle as if it's still in 4WD when it's turned off, but rear wheels scoot when I turn corners or reverse. is there a simple solution? or at least something to look for?

SOURCE: i have a 2004 toyota

well most likely problem is the rubber bushings on the track bars or mounting bushing for the struts are worn and dry rotted they will cause the squeaking when cornerring and when braking because of the momentum of the body moving back and forth. with so many miles on the vehicle i would have them replaced... please rate this thanks

SOURCE: locked steering wheel

Something wrong with your Ignition key barrel,
Ignition key barrel jam in place.
or
Could be your anti-Theft System failed (including, but not limited) fuses, wirings, etc. If you have one.
or
So check the fuse boxes (one in the cabin & the other in the engine compartment).
To see if there is any burned fuses.

See Fuse Boxes:

See in the plastic cover, a plastic fuse puller ( use it to pull the fuses) once a time & check NOT burn.

If locked in place; do these steps:
1 - Juggle it several times in a very soft & slow burst.

2 - Juggle (Shake) the steering wheel RH & LH,
several times in a very gentle & slow.

3 – Try to remove the ignition switch

4 – Search the internet Google, www.about.com, www.youtube.com/video
For clues to help you sort out your problems.

SOURCE: 2006 Toyota RAV4, 3.5L V6 Check engine

I am having a multiple cylinder misfire on my 2006 Toyota RAV4 with the 3.5L V6. Every cylinder is reporting a mifire. Each cylinder has it's own coil. I highly doubt that all 6 coils went bad at once. Does anyone have any idea what my be causing this?? Is that the problem you two are having?

SOURCE: how to replace a fuel pump on a toyota rav4 1998

you need to remove the rear seat to get to it, just keep in mind the system is preasurized, which in english means you need to loosen the fuel filter in the front of the car first, "THIS IS CRITICAL" if not you will cause gas to get all over the interior. The 96-00 rav4 has a hatch under the carpet, under the seats in the rear. it is a pain to get to, once you remove the seats and carpet you will see it. I would recomend you bring it to a dealer if you dont know what you are doing. But if you are like me and figured what the hell, then you will want to take these steps first...
1. Let the car sit for a long period of time, about 3 hours or more.
2. Have a low amount of fuel, do not have a full tank
3. loosen the gas cap
4. Remove the intake, and the fuse box,
5. Loosen the top nut on the fuel filter under the hood to let out the remaining pressure, do not loose the O rings. This is a good time to replace that filter too, it is about 30 bucks from toyota.
6. open the hatch in the rear,
7. remove the electric feeds from the pump.
NOTE: YOU CAN REMOVE THE POWER FROM THE PUMP AND START THE CAR TO TAKE OUT THE PREASURE, BUT I FOUND IT BETTER TO DO IT MY WAY DUE TO WHAT IT TAKES TO START IT AFTER YOU DO THIS.
8. line the floor of the rav with Plastic, bags, or cardboard, or something.
9. remove old pump
10. install new pump
11. Re attach the fuel filter or install new filter
12. get car back together enough to start it, make sure you have all the lines connected, if not gas will get everywhere...
Good Luck, it was a FUN adventure to do this...

Replacing clutch on toyota rav4

first off make sure that it is a clutch problem
there are too often reports that the diy or mechanic has replaced the clutch when the problem was a broken/ jamming clutch cable or faulty clutch master cylinder
the same symptoms of a slipping clutch, not disengaging to select gears , shuddering etc are indicative of clutch control problems ___ cable or hydraulic failures or broken engine mounts
a lot cheaper to check the outside bits first

Can I add something other than brake fluid (maybe a brake treatment that is heavier) to the brake fluid to help keep the clutch from slipping on a 1996 rav4

no, the hydraulics is not the issue, its time to replace the clutch. there is no quick fix or easy patch job, replace the clutch (hydraulics dont affect how the clutch holds, they mearly either disengage the clutch or do nothing)

5 speed manual...wont go into gear when engine is on...but will go and stay in all gears when i turn off engine??? any help on this?

This may be one of two things, i have just repaired one with the same problem, the first thing may be the clutch slave cylinder, this is what pushes the clutch plate to release it or engege it, if this part is bad it will not disengage the clutch and will not let you shift, the one i just repaired had a bad pressure plate this is a part of the clutch and the clutch needs replacing, the best way to check is to locate the slave cylinder on the trany and watch it as someone presses the clutch pedal to floor the cylinder should push the fork all the way out if it does then the problem is the pressure plate and a clutch replacement is needed, if the fork is not pushed out enough then the problem is in the slave or the master for the slave, here are the parts to help you locte them, as far as the clutch and the plate they are located inside trany housing and cant be seen without pull trany, also make sure the clutch fluid is full, this is located near brake fluid resivor, and it also uses brake fluid, hope this helps.johnjohn2_62.jpgjohnjohn2_63.jpgjohnjohn2_64.jpg

When i push in the clutch it makes a screeching noise from the flywheel area. what could it be?

Its sounds like whats called the through out bearing it rides between the pressure plate and the slave cylinder baiscly when you push in the clutch it pushes on the pressure plate to disengage the cluch disc it likely will come and go you realy don;t need to rebuild the clutch over this unless your haveing slipping problems

I just bought a RAV4 in France. Owners manual is

This is a manual center differential lock button for 4WD models.
When you push this button, it manually locks the front and rear axles. An amber C DIFF LOCK light should appear on the dash board when engaged.
Push it again and it will disengage. It may take a few seconds to disengage, and a beeping will be heard until the diff is unlocked.

The center differential lock is only meant to be used in emergency situations. Driving with it engaged at all times can damage your differential.
