If you dont smell gas when trying to start. it could be a bad fuel pump or cloged filter . if you do smell gas then it could be ignition related. check for spark. check fuel pressure .

i was told that if the jeep all of a sudden didnt start on its own without giving it gas, then next time you start it hold the pedal all the way to the floor and it resets something in the computer and sets you back to normal.
Running lean means too little fuel. If you're not smelling fuel I would check to be sure the fuel line at the tank area and under the car isn't pinched [ speed bumps etc can bend the fuel line if it is loose already] if all is well there I suspect the fuel pump [ inside the gas tank] is beginning to quit. First try some good gas additive made for the car to see if that can give new life to a tired fuel pump.
hi, the banging on the tank is a typical fuel pump scenario , but to last for years is not very likely , i think it needs to be diagnosed to see what's missing when it wont start .
If this problem happens mostly after it rains and you buy your gas at the same gas station most of the time, it could be that their gas has water in it. Try using a bottle of the cheap isopropyl alcohol gas additive from the auto parts store or just tell them you think you have water in your gas. Most auto parts stores carry some type of water remover. If it works try to figure out which gas station is giving you bad gas and stay away!
THese cars have a high speed rated tire and will almost always wear quickly. The right rear is the drive wheel (where the power goes when you give it gas) It will wear real quickly if you drive it hard. I would try rotating every 7500 miles (unless tire sizes are different as with the SL series) I sell a lot of tires on these cars and 25K is usually the limit.
Some cars cut off as a fail safe to overheating especially on newer cars. The computer controls the fans and if they are not working the computer is probably telling the car to shut off. Have you replaced the motors already, if not, this is what's happening. Once you replace the motors it should run fine. I wouldn't suggest driving it too much with this problem as it may affect the computer by giving it false info.
