IS THERE A NEW RECALL FOR THE 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU STEERING SHAFT THAT HAS JUST GONE INTO AFFECT LAST WEEK OR TWO

You should contact GM. 1-800-222-1020. There was a recall on those cars for that issue. Recall #10183. It's the steering column that is locking up

Call the dealer. There is a recall on the ignition switch.

There is no power steering fluid in the system.A 2005 Malibu is electronic steering.If you lose assist you may have to replace the steering column.You may also have an intermediate shaft that is binding.The I-shaft connects your steering column to the steering gear.There is a universal joint in the shaft that may be stiff or seized.

these cars have a recall for that the slip shaft at the bottom of steering column starts to not move (up and down you cant see it its inside the rubber boot)has to be removed cleaned and regreased

sounds like a steering column universal gone bad try shaking wheel while in park an look under hood at steering shaft

I have a 2005 malibu. Clunked for a year and finally lost all steering! Rack and pinion was replaced. solved. The clunk yu here are missing teeth.
