I had a SES light come on the other night so I took the car to the shop the next day. I was told a solenoid was bad and needed to be replaced. When I got the car back everything seemed fine. But I noticed that when I drove on a freeway on ramp or off ramp, the ones that make a very wide turn in a circle, I hear a clattering sound. To me it sounds like a chain rubbing on something. After I complete the turn the noise stops. What could be causing this? Could the replacement of this solenoid have something to do with it? I didn't make the sound prior to this.

Take a look at your gausett brackets, by the front exhaust tube. 2 sheet metal lookig brackets, each held up by 2 screws each. Those gausetts brake and cause a rattle, Common problem on a MAxima your year. Nissan has a TSB for replacement of these brackets.

Ok, first off you need to take your vehicle to a Nissan dealer for a second opinion. Its not at all common to need a T-chain @ 58,000 miles unless you dont take care of your car and or you beating the snot out of it like it was stolen. What is the symptom? What caused it? When did it start? Second, this is not something an amature could/should do as it is very involved and there are alot of things you could potentially mess up. Third a new engine(long block), parts alone would run approx. 6-8 thousand dollars. A used engine could be an option and could run approx.1500-2500 dollars depending on mileage. Hope this helps and good luck.

Mine usually stalled coming out the driveway. I went thru replacement of 6 coils and plugs with almost no improvement on my 2000 maxima. Ultimately the mass air flow sensor was replaced. All the engine codes from check engine light would make you think the engine needs overhaul, due to the nature of resultant bad engine performance. You can buy maf sensor $100 online. 5 minutes to install it. I tried cleaning it, but it made no difference until I replaced it. After that it was like 50 more horsepower.

I have a 2002 maxima with 75k mile and heard a rattling which died down after it warmed up.
It was a bad timing chain pulley. Don't wait too long before fixing that!
