Car Stall or won't start even after fuel filter and pump replaced

Recently had a remote start system installed in the car. 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. The car will not start in the morning with the remote start. A week later the car stalled as I was driving home from work however it restarted immediately. Within 2 days the car would not start at all. Had the car towed and fuel filter and pump replaced. Now, a week later it is stalling again and has died in my office parking lot. I am unable to start it at all. Car turns over but will not start. I called the place that installed the remote start system and explained that it doesn't start in the morning and I was advised that this is a problem with many GMs. The remote starter may have no relevance to any of this but I thought I would mention. Any advice?

Well, it did turn out to be the fuel pump and nothing to do with the remote start. A week after my initial problem and fix, it stalled again and had to be towed back to the same garage. When the fuel pump was installed, a connection came disconnected and it has run perfectly since that minor problem was fixed! Runs fantastic once again and with all of the snow for the last month, I'm SO thankful for the remote start! Thanks all for the comments!

I am almost positive that the cause of the problem is with the remote start. After maket remote starts are not the best idea because they have to splice into the factory wiring and alot of times it has a bad effect on the car. you should definatly look into getting the company that put it in to fix the problem

This car uses GM's Passlock 2 anti-theft system. In order for a remote starter to work, the system has to be bypassed during remote start. Basically, there is a small resistor inside your key cylinder. When you turn the cylinder, the resistance of this resistor is read and matched to a value in the computer. If the value doesn't match, the computer disables the fuel pump and spark. Basically, this keeps the car from being hotwired and stolen. If the installer did a shoddy job, the wires for the bypass can come loose or the bypass itself can malfunction. You likely have a 'security' or 'theft' light flashing when you try to start it and it doesn't start. I think surber91 is right, the installer is as fault here. I'm sure your car didn't need a fuel pump at all. Try to find a reputable shop that does remote starts and have them check the work. If the work is as fault, you can go after the original installer for the price of that fuel pump.

2004 PONTIAC GRAND PIX STALLS WILL NOT START BACK UP SOMETIMES STARTS AND RUNS GREAT THEN WILL JUST STALL WILL NOT START FRO DAYS

Fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, Idle air control valve, mass air flow sensor, faulty plugs, faulty injectors. If there is any codes set that is where I would start. The check engine light code is going to tell you somewhat what is going on. There are too many different things that there can be. My guess is mass air flow sensor or something with the fuel.

Only way I can get my car to start is to put a gas rag over the Air intake and after it sets a couple hours It will turn over but want start its a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am has new fuel pump and sensors

Could you be a little more specific as to what your problem is ? Based on what I read, even after you replaced the fuel pump and sensor, you still are not able to get your car started. What else have you done to your car ? Do you have any codes ?

Would a plugged fuel line return line cause my 2004 pontiac bonneville to start then run for alittle then stall?

Fuel Pressure regulator ..maybe

Turn the Key to the 'ON' position, the fuel pump should run for about 1 second. listen for it. Do this a few times without trying to start the car. This should pressurize the system. now try starting the car. There may be air in the system from changing the filter.

spray a quick mist of starting fluid into air cleaner hose. Reinstall. If vehicle starts then shut off, suspect possible faulty fuel pump relay, fuel pump fuse, fuel pump, or wiring

I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Recently put new fuel pump not even 3 months ago. New fuel filter as well same time. 2 weeks ago from today was going about 55 to 65 mph oil light comes on and car...

If you replaced the fuel pump then there is a possibility that during the job then some debris from the tank and/or filter got loose somewhere into the fuel system and is in your lines. It could even be a very tiny speck of gasket material, old or new.

Stalling at lights

Did you replace the fuel pump because of the problem? Or did the problem start after replacing the fuel pump? If it started happening after you replaced the fuel pump, take it back to the place you had it repaired (or if you did it yourself take a look) and ask them if there may be a loose connection or a leak that might allow air into the fuel system. Also, replacing the fuel filter might fix the problem as well.
