If your cooling fan is running all the time or if the cooling fan does not turn on when engine temperature is at normal or higher than normal temperature. It is possible in cold weather the fan may not turn on often.
Some vehicles have sensors that can control the electric fan with the ignition off to keep the heat buildup that naturally occurs right after turning off the engine.
This can prevent hard starting that can happen with a hot engine.
If it is doing this an abnormal amount, the sensor that is operable with the ignition off may be failing.
Before turning off the ignition, check to see if the engine temperature is pushing the 'red zone;' if it is, then the fan operation may be normal but your engine may be running hot.
#1. Check coolant level,(engine stone cold and not running) change to a new one if not done in last 2 years. #2. Change thermostat to a new one, Honda thermostat only, also every 2 years. #3. In the thermostat housing there is a "coolant switch A" you should have a plug going to it, unplug it and while your engine is running almost at operating temp, bridge 2 wires with a wire, your cooling fan/fans should come on, also check for continuity you should have no continuity when engine is cold and continuity when the engine is at operating temp.
#4. If there is no continuity when engine is at operating temp then you need a new "coolant switch A"
Usually on most vehicles the coolant temperature sensor sends info to the ecm which then determines when to turn your fan on and off, when you turn the car off the fan may continue to run until the engine reaches a cooler temperature, if the front radiator grill is'nt getting proper air flow to cool the coolant down check the radiator grill for damage or debris build up, if the car has problems over heating check the entire cooling system.
