This happened to my Passat, and little by little the air kept getting colder and colder until there was no heat left....I just took it in to get looked at- The heating core is gone- the part itself not that expensive, but since they need to take apart the entire dash to replace, the total job is like $800, $700 of that is labor!
Check the coolant level,if not up it will make difference these systems have to be bled if tampered with air gets trapped in the radiator causing no heat, engine has to be ran up to temp while car sits also remove the tank cap until all the air is out could take several minutes.

make sure it has a thermostat

Ok, have your coolind system backflushed. Your heater core could be clogged. This could have been caused in using the wrong antifreeze system or mixing the green with the vw g-12 antifreeze. This could ran you about $110 to 150 dollars at a radiator shop...stay away from the Jidffy lube or oil doctor's . This could be your cheaper alternative to solution to your problem..good luck..

Sounds like you may have a partially plugged heater core. You could flush this out separately, from flushing radiator & engine block. Diconnect heater hoses going to your heater core and clamp off, so not to loose coolant from engine. Now hook up separate hose to one side of heater core pipe and flush out with typical garden hose. Repeat procedure on both heater core inlets. Reconnect original heater hoses and test difference. You may have to add an additional litre of antifreeze. If this don't work i suggest changing heater core. Good luck.........Ron.
