It could be several things: A faulty crankshaft position sensor, a problem with the ECU, a bad ground, a faulty mass air flow sensor, faulty camshaft position sensor, a bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay. If you have a large chain type auto parts store ex.(autozone, advanced auto parts, pep boys) nearby, once you get the car started you can go there and they have a diagnostic tool that they will hook up to your car and test it for free, It may read some codes that may pinpoint your problem. If no codes come up, I would be inclined to believe it may be a loose wire or bad ground somewhere.

Is the problem that it is not turning over at all, making clicking noises, or is it turning over but not firing?
I dont think its a bad ground then. It could be in the ignition switch itself. Im gonna go look at the hyundai tech website, give me a minute or two.
Is it a six or four cylinder?
Ok I think wiring is not an issue, but if it is it would most likely be at the connectors for : the ignition coils, crankshaft position sensor wiring, or the wiring at the ignition switch. The troubleshooting section on the tech website points to a faulty ignition switch module.
It could possibly be your key too. There is something on your car called an immobilizer system. It is an antitheft device that disables the ignition system if the factory key is not used to start the car. The transponder in your key could be going bad, or what is called the BCM(body control module) which is located to the left of the steering wheel behind the panel at your left knee. The fuses all plug into it. The 2.7l models use an antenna to communicate with the key, and the key receives its power from the ignition coils which send power to it thru the key switch.
So if the switch is worn out or loose it might not be putting power to your key to deactivate the antitheft.
And this part of the system can only be checked by the dealer, the fault codes for it have to be read by a HI-SCAN tool that they have, the codes for this system wont show up on the types of scanners they have at the parts store. When its not wanting to start try jiggling the key around in the switch while trying to start it.
If its in the ignition switch or immobilizer system it should throw some codes up on the HI-SCAN. It really sucks but you might have to go to Hyundai dealer and fork over the $50-$100 they would charge you to hook that scanner up.
Your welcome, I wish you luck with this. If you would please let me know what you find out at the dealer. If it is in the BCM or immobilizer system, there is nothing the everyday mechanic can do for it, because if anything is replaced in that system the computer has to be "re-trained" to recognize the new components. If its not re-trained it will never run again. Seems like a lot of aggravation for a lousy 5% discount on car insurance. Which you should be getting, since your car has this system in it.
i have a similar problem... it only doesnt start every once and while and after an 30mins- an hour it will start. I am thinking it is a power problem because the interior clock resets everytime it does it. My mechanic has looked at it few things to and cant seem to figure it out. My is just making clicking noises though but everything else seems to be the same?

I have had the same problem as every one else with the starting and I have herd everything that you all have and spent over a grand with the same problem. I found it myself its not the fuel pump not the injectors not the coil pack not the fuel filter not the computer not the battery is low. Its a simple fix its the three pin connection on the wire that comes from the crank sensor.

how do i find what wire is loose or the bad ground? as all the other things have been tested or replaced, and no fault codes came up on the scan
yeh it turns ova just like its bout to start up, but then it just keeps cranking, it doesnt fire up, when it gets thier it starts perfect again, then ever other time it could be starting perfect, its random times, sum times taking a while to get it to get going, no clicking noice, everthything sounds fine exept it doesn't fire up

thanx for all ur help, im using the same key as i always have, my machanic thought it was the emob. system too but doesnt no where to go from thier, ill take it to the dealer and hopefully they'll be more help than my machanic!
