I have a 2003 camry,4 cyl engine auto trans,143000 miles on it, just replaced the trans with used unit with 20,000 mile on it, car dose the same thing, when shifting from 2nd to 3rd it holds the shift high then bangs, or sometimes slips, if car is manually shifted works perfect on original trans, fluid was discolored and burnt smelling, also slow to engage into reverse,the used trans shift to reverse fine, the cooler was also flushed out before installing

There has to be either smoke or a leak. Have your Mechanic do a compression test on all cylinders. It will give you a lot of information on your engine

what trans, manual stick or auto?, none of this we can guess.
is winds, whines?
wot, = wide open throttle or what?

Cylinder #1 is always at the front on a 4 cyl

Note: operate A/C at least once per week, to maintain lubrication.

Underhood & Undervehicle

Every 3,000 miles - Replace engine oil & oil filter. Clean battery terminals. Adjust drive belt. Check power steering fluid. Check steering & CV BOOTS for wear and replace if necessary. Lubricate front end suspension.

Every 6,000 miles - Check transmission fluid condition and level. Check brake pads and caliper components - replace if necessary. Lubricate driveshaft U-joints. Rotate tires. Lubricate wiper arm linkage and pivots.

Every 12,000 miles - Adjust engine valve clearance. Replace distributor cap & rotor. Drain and replace engine Coolant. Replace Air Filter element. Replace Fuel Filter. Replace wiper blades.

Every 24,000 miles - Replace Drive Belt. Replace A/C Compressor Drive Belt. ** Change auto transmission fluid & trans filter (this is critical and must be adhered to) - preferrably do a trans flush at same time. Replace drive AXLE fluid.

Every 36,000 miles - Replace HT leads.

Every 2 years - Replace brake fluid (also clutch fluid if applicable). Replace power steering fluid.


** If you intend to keep this vehicle long term, then consider changing the trans fluid & filter every 20,000 miles. This is the secret to automatic transmission longevity.

You drive 20,000 miles a year div x 5 =every 4,000 miles

You drive 16,500 miles a year div x 4= every 4,125 miles

You drive 12,000 miles a year div x 3=every 4,000 miles

So every 10,13 or 17 weeks

3,4 or 5 times a year you change your oil

80 thousand miles is the best, any more you are risking damage to your engine.

P0125- Engine not reaching operation temp quick enough. Possible problems:

• Insufficient warm up time
• Low engine coolant level
• Leaking or stuck open thermostat
• Faulty coolant temp sensor
• P1130- A/F Sensor Circuit Range/performance, Bank 1 Sensor 1

It is recommended that you change the timing belt at 80000 miles, but I had one with over 200,000 miles that never had a problem.

I have the same model. Congrats you made it over a 100,000 miles! Most of them failed after as little as 20,000 or around 78,000 miles becaue there was a design flaw in that the timing chain did not get any oil to it. I had the 78,000 mile engine. Mine failed while driving at 65 miles an hour on the expressway. Pretty much wrecked the engine. The problem with putting in a used engine is that no other type of engine will fit in this car and you can count on engine failure again at 20,000; 78,000 or from what you tell me after 100,000 miles. You would be better off investing in a down payment for a Toyota made here in America that gets over 50 miles to the gallon. I used to be an oldsmobile man and then reluctantly switched to Saturn but am fed up with GM completely now and all american car manufactures.
