Change Ignition Switch in 1987 GMC Jimmy S15 4x4

I'm sorry. I have already asked this question and an expert mentioned that I need to change out the tumber and igniton switch. I've tried to contact him again but he may be off today. This is my only means of transportation and need to try to fix. It's an 87 GMC Jimmy S15 4x4 Manual Trans (the little one). The key is out of it but the switch is still engaged in the on position & will not move at all. We've unhooked the battery so we didn't kill that too. I need help to get that Ignition Switch out of there so we can attempt to put a new one in but I can't find any info on the net on how to do this at all. Is there someone out there that can respond with good step by step instructions on how I do this? Thank you in advance.

Yikes! Not sure what the little bugger wants at this point! Turned the truck on just fine but when I turn the key back to turn it off, it did kill the engine but stayed engaged in the on position showing "check engine, battery, etc." lights, so not completely off. And the key would NOT pull out and it would NOT go either forward or back again at this point. After much determination, I got the key out which I knew could not be right, but it was out. So what do you think? Is it the Ignition Switch or the Key Lock Cylinder? I should have taken Auto Shop in HS back in the 70's!

Wow! You are right that I may not be able to handle this myself. I so appreciate your time, attention and wonderful clarification. You and your team are awesome!

The steering wheel will need to come off to access it. There are special tools that are needed to take the steering wheel off. There is a steering wheel pulling that comes with bolts to fit inside the steering wheel itself after pulling the horn plate off which may consist of screws behind the wheel itself. Then you will need a tool that screws over the stud where you removed the bolt for the steering wheel. This device compressing the spring so that you can take a needle/pick set and pry out the snap ring that hold the turn signal devise on. After you remove that, then you can have access to the key switch which may have a phillip screw that will need to be taken off. The key switch may be attached to a rod that will require you to drop the steering column to replace it. It isn't as hard as it sounds, but it is about a 2 hour job. I am placing this under clarication request since I am not sure you will want to do this job yourself once you have read the particulars.
