I have a subaru impreza 2007. It has been stored for 3 years, no one has turned the engine or been driven. The oil dip stick is not marking, what could have happened to the oil?

The dip stick has markings on it showing the level it should be at.

Transmission Dip Stick is on the bell housing. It is hard to see on this one look closely. Hope this Tip helps. R/ David

1. Warm the engine up, Remove the Drain plug and drain oil out (Drain plug is on the drivers side of the pan).
2. When oil is done draining replace the drain plug and install a new crush seal (silvery washer on drain plug)
3. Next you will need a Oil filter socket. Use the oil filter socket with a 3/8 drive ratchet with a 6 inch extension, remove the filter, it will be full of oil.
4. Use fresh motor oil and coat the gasket on the new filter and install. tighten filter 1.5 turns past hand tight.
5. Refill the engine with 5w-30 Conventional oil. (start with 4 quarts than check the dipstick) Subaru recomends havoline as this is what they come with from the factory.
6. Wipe up any oil that may have spilled on the exhaust cross over pipe.
7. Start engine check for oil pressure and leaks.

probably leaking rocker cover gasket ,oil slowly lands on exhaust,ive got one and had exactly the same symptoms and rocker cover gaskets were the issue

In cases like this you are advised to take the vehicle for a scan which will reveal some codes that you can simply look up for confirmation @ http://www.troublecodes.net/Subaru/

The BMW 525I doesn't have a dip stick. The oil level is checked using the "i" menu. Select service status and from there you should choose "check engine oil level".

Not sure about the legacy, but the impreza has one. I imagine its is similar if its a 2.5L. It is located close to the fire wall on the passenger side of the car. Mine has a yellow handle.

DIPSTICK IS HIDING UNDER A POWER STEERING HOSE ON THE DRIVERS' SIDE, NEAR THE BACK OF THE MOTOR. HE WILL NEED A LONG FUNNEL TO PUT TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE DIPSTICK TUBE. Yes, there IS a known oiling problem:

Your turbo may be toast! ***ouch!***
I have found more info on 2004 - 2007 models, but may or may not be applicable to your 2000 Impreza. I am not familiar with the the UK model differences, but if yours has AVCS use your favorite internet search engine to search for "Subaru AVCS" or "Subaru TSB". Good luck!
