Jaguar XK8 2005 beeping/no reverse sensors working.

Jaguar XK8 2005 model beeping for 5-6 seconds when starting car. No response from parking sensors either. Recently had to charge battery. Will a replacement battery cure issue or is it a sensor fault? I have successfully re-set the windows after they seemed to be out of sync. Any suggestions?

The continuous 6 second beep when you turn the car on is the parking sensor control module telling you it is not working. This is most likely due to a duff sensor or a wiring fault causing a duff sensor. The easiest way to check sensors is (with a friend) put the car into reverse and hold the brake on. Go and listen very closely (folks with the mufflers removed will struggle with this) to each sensor, it will have a quiet high pitched whine if it's working. If there is one that stands out as not whining then replace it, checking the wiring as you do so. It's a very simple job with plenty of help online.

A point to note, using a pressure washer or drive in car wash will force water into the necessary delicate spaces in the sensor often causing it to fail, avoid doing this where possible. If you think this is what has happened then remove all sensors individually, dry very gently and replace

Hi ive got a jaguar s type 2.7d and having problem with parking sensors, would you know anything about them?

Hello
Check the sensors , you still might have bad one in the group which will effect the full function of the sensors.

If sensors are good , then you need to check the position of the sensors and set up correctly as if one of the sensors is out of alignment , it will cause this problem.

If not , the you need to check the electrical wiring for the sensors

I installed the parking sensors yeaterday and now they continue to beep after I put them in reverse. I did the test where you turn on the ignition but not start the car and then put the lever in reverse....

hello i would like to help but can you give me information on the sensor kit you installed. some systems to beep and some only beep when the sensors detect something. also if they work fine with out the engine running but then don't work properly when the engine is run this could be there is to muck voltage for the sensors, some sensor kits are saying they are 12v, this is correct 12 volts, but the charging system on most vehicles are 14 volts, so you may have to fit a regulator to the feed wires to the sensor. you would need a 12 volt regulator board. this will stop any power going over the 12 volts to the device.

Reverse sensors work some days but then on some days I get 3 second audio alarm when I turn on ignition,

I find the sensors only activate when you are very close to an object behind you. At about 5 inches they beep constantly. Further then five inches they beep slower and slower until they stop at about 8 inches from something behind you. If you are very close to an object lest then 2 inches they will beep constantly. Also when you start your car and put it in reverse and you hear a beep the reverse sensors are not working. The best way to test them is to turn the key to the start position but do not start it. place the lever in R get out or have someone walk in back of the car, you should hear the sensor go off. Also, there might be a situation when one or two are not working. Follow the procedure above for test but have a stethoscope mechanic type, which most auto parts stores carry. and listen to each one individually. If one is not working it will have to be replaced. The control module for this system is in the trunk next to the spare tire. Some of these cars had a leaking trunk problem in 02 if the module is wet, get a new one. If it hasn't failed it will when they get wet. Finally the sensors should be heard inside and outside the car.

I have a jaguar xj8 and the gear got stuck in park ,and I can't put it in reverse or drive. How can I fix this problem

Most likely the lock out switch at the brake pedal is at fault, because in order to put it in in to any gear you have to step on the brake first ! Their is a switch located which prevents you put it in gear with out stepping on the brake pedal, so check this switch first.

Gear locks when i park on even a slight incline

ALWAYS engage the Parking Brake BEFORE putting car into "Park". When you want to get out of "Park", put your foot on the brake pedal, move gear shifter into desired gear, THEN take down Parking Brake. If you get stuck (gear shifter doesn't move), then try the "rocking" method (recruit 1 or 2 folks to push your car from behind while you try to move gear shifter into desired gear). Good luck!
