SOURCE: Fuel filter location Sierra

I have been told by a mechanic that the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank. Have to either drop the tank or remove the pickup bed. Access is on the top of the tank. This is poor engineering.

It is probably the fuel pump. If I remember the number correctly, this fuel system needs about 50 lbs to open a valve.
Until this valve opens, no fuel gets to the fuel nozzels.

SOURCE: replaceing fuel pump on gmc sierra

The fuel pump is located INSIDE the gas tank and is a combination fuel pump/sending unit for the fuel gauge. Be prepared for a large repair bill. About $600!

SOURCE: I need to change my

There is a schrader valve on the fuel line on the engine for attaching a fuel gauge to monitor the fuel pump for testing purposes, and it should have a cap on the valve similar to a valve stem cap on a tire. (relieving the fuel pressure is similar to letting the air out of a tire and watch out for any fuel spray) or you can loosen up a line fitting at the fuel filter until the pressure bleeds off then replace the fuel filter, and you might want to have a pan to catch the fuel in, and be very certain that there is no ignition source anywhere near the vehicle.

Where is the fuel filter located on 1992 sierra 1500 located

It is located midway along the frame of your truck.

Remove the fuel filter from the bracket on the frame rail. Replace the fuel pipe O-rings if you find any cuts, nicks or distortion in them. Slide the new filter into the bracket. Remove the caps you put on the fuel pipes and connect the threaded fittings back to the filter. Tighten it to 18 ft-lbs.

Can not get fuel filter loose

The lines and fitting are so rusted it is advisable to replace the lines and fitting completely. The fittings are made of steel and the filter is all stainless steel. Tubing wrenches are best to use to try and remove these fittings. If not possible replace the fuel lines with compression fittings at the cut ends with the appropriate fittings at each end to fit the filter
