2005 Pacifica Accelerator Sticks

My wife has a 2005 Pacifica that has problems with the accelerator pedal sticking. It really has a hard spot to get through while pressing down. I had it in while it was under warranty and it was on the list to fix. It still does it and is getting worse.

Spray throttle body cleaner. Then scrub inside with toothbrush and respray. Good for 6 months

It's not a matter of needing lubricant. A gummy (sticky) build-up inside the Air Intake at the Throttle Valve, causes the throttle valve to stick. I don't know how to stop the Gum from building up but if you want to remove it-- Clean the inside of the Throttle Valve with carb cleaner and a rag. It will stop the problem for a while.

Have the same vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. Also have the same problem w/ the sticking accelerator. I dope it up real good w/ WD-40 and axle grease. It works for a few days, then goes back to sticking. Drove over my $250 chainsaw the other day, wiping out the cutting bar on the saw. When the boys in DC get off Toyota's case I hope they open an investigation on this defect.

My 2005 Pacifica has started leaking when it rains hard from the area right above where the airbag button is. The water leaks down to the floor by brake and accelerator pedals.

It sounds like a leak in the sun roof seals. Better fix it right away. I had the same in my Acura and let it go. Soon I had mold and headliner damage all over the ceiling.

2006 chrysler pacifica accelerator pedal sticking at the beginning of depressing the pedal.

carbon buildup in the throtle body is most likely the problem you need to remove the air cleaner and buy some card cleaner. there ia a butterfly valve in the throat of the assembly that will have a carbon ring built up around it use the carb cleaner and a tooth brush to remove it this happened to my pacifica I could not believe it was something so simple I went through lubricating all the cables before I found the real problem

Accelerator catches/sticks when depressed. You must then press very hard to get it past that point.

go under the hood and manually move the accelerator to see what is binding it.

If you dont know how to do this then get an assistant to press on the accelerator (car does not have to be on) and whatch for the part that moves as he accelerates. Manually move this to find the binding. Please note that it is possible to have binding with in the cable assembly back to the foot pedal.

Good luck

Accelerator pedal sticking - 2005 Pacifica

Buy throttle body cleaner at your local parts store. Take the big intake hose off that is connected to the throttle body and air filter housing. Open up the butterfly (like you're controling the throttle at the engine). Spray this cleaner inside the throttle body, around the butterfly, where it motions back and forward on the pin. You will see a lot of carbon build up run out. Do this 2-3 times. It doesn't take a lot to clean it, just a couple of quick sprays. Wipe it clean with a clean cloth or rag. Put it all back together. It will seem hard to start for a few turn overs, but this is from the cleaner and it will dry out quick. What happens is, over time this carbon builds up where the butterfly closes and it gets (stuck) on this build up, which causes you to push harder on the gas pedal or it will not close completely. They charge will charge you like $250+ to do this and usually it's just build -up. Try it and let us know how it works for you. The cleaner $5

Accelerator sticks

Take off the throttle body (very easy to do) and use carb cleaner to clean off the gunk. You have to clean both sides of the butterfly.
