sounds like u may have a starter problem, if u can try gently tapping the starter with a small hammer while someone is cranking the key. if the vehicle starts then u will need a new starter.

Sounds like solenoid on starter has packed it in Try crossing solenoid terminal (small wire on solenoid) to power feed on starter (End of battery cable) If nothing happens Remove starter & renew solenoid

Ok, even if the battery is new, get a voltmeter and measure the battery, if its below 12v, thats the problem. That way you completely eliminate all these factors without a doubt. Also check negative wire from battery to the ground box and connections. It sounds more like a corroded terminal.

Put a new starter in a dodge neon and when you go start it all it does is make a clicking sound and wont start why

Check the battery to starter cable and connections (the heavy one). Because the starter sonenoid is engaging but the starter is not.

When we first bought our 1995 Dodge Neon Sport from a friend we were aware that he had problems with the gages not always working correctly. The car has run well for almost a year and does not burn any oil...

I'm still not inclined to look past the area of the alternator. Check out the wiring going to the plug for the alternator for any signs of damage or broken insulation. Also, have an auto parts store test the alternator and while they are checking alternator output, move the wires around a litte and see if the output changes any. It sounds like a wiring problem to me. Hope this helps and good luck.

Starting help

have you checked the battery and the cables?
put a wrench on the crank pulley, you should be able to turn it .that would rule out the engine is not seized.
a click like that can result from a bad connection on the battery.
jumpstart it being careful about polarity and put the ground on the engine, not the battery
