My dome lights on my 2008 Buick Enclave do not go on anymore when the car door opens. I tried to push the dome light override button in and out and it doesn't make any difference. They still don't go on. What to do?

My car had same problem. Found out it has a manual override by pushing dial in or out. Can't remember that part but was able to shut and was fine after that. Hope it works.

There is one of three common issues that can cause this.

1. The Lamp Dimmer for the dash/overhead lamps is turned to the Dome Lamp Off position. Many people are unaware of this feature.
2. The door switch that activates the dome lamp is defective.
3. The dome lamp bulb is burned out.

If none of these are the problem, then there is either a blown fuse or a wiring problem in the lamp circuit.

Hi, It is possible the lock release mechanism is beginning to fail. Have someone push on the door in the closed direction while another person pushes the button. If that opens it you can try lubricating the mechanism and retry to see what happens.

The dome light is on a separate fuse since the dome light is one of the few lights that are connected to the battery even if the key is off.

There are usually two relay/fuse boxes

One under the hood on the drivers side near the firewall.
The other place is under the dash to the left of the drivers knee.

There is a dome override switch on it. I have a 04 Avalanche that the dome light didnt work when I bought it and replaced the bulb and itstill didnt work. ABout a month late I noticed a dome override button below the air vent on the drivers side ov he vehicle and pushed it. When I got home the light came on. Not sure what purpose this button serves, but look for a dome override button.

The door switch needs to be looked at, possibly worn out, check other doors, if they work, then the driver door switch needs to be replaced.

Did you check the dome override button? It shoiuld not be pressed in, otherwise the lights won't come on with the door or the dimmer slide switch moved all the way to the top.
