If the fans are frozen & won't move then you will need to replace them. However, if they are still capable of moving by you using your hand to just turn them, then you probably have a temperature sensor/fan relay issue. May I suggest that you first identify what is causing the problem before investing in any parts. Then, once you know if it is the fans or the sensor, you'll want to just pressure test the radiator & cooling system to see if there is any leakage. If you only replace the fans & the radiator without fixing another problem, you'll just have to start all over again. To check just the cooling system (from cold engine), fill up the radiator to where it should be, along with the overflow tank to the low line & put the cap back on & start the car long enough to see if there is a leak anywhere. If not, you only need to focus on fixing the problem with the fans. Generally this is the "cooling fan sensor" that mounts near the bottom of the radiator. Some models have the sensor near the thermostat housing, some on the top of the radiator, & some on the bottom of the radiator. A good Haynes manual for that specific car will save you time & trouble with just a simple 5.99 voltage tester.

Good Luck!

2001 VW Beetle 2.0 heater won t heat up

If you flushed the coolant with the thermostat in, chances are you didn't flush the coolant. Regardless, it's easiest to check the controls inside first. Does the blower fan work? Does the air flow change from floor to vent, to dash as it's supposed to? Does the A/C change temps when knob is turned from cold to hot? Post results.

Radiator fan won't turn on at all

on the 92 civic you have 2 sensors for the coolant, one is a coolant fan switch and the other is a temp sensor. the fan switch tells the computer to turn on the fans at a certian temp. i would suggest replacing the fan switch which is located on the thermostat housing. if that doent work it could be the relay. I have owned my 92 civic hatch for 10 yrs and have done all the work to it myself. Also a mechanic by trade. Hope this will help you out

Changed engine temp sensor and fuse relay. Only one fan turns on and car still overheats

Hello and welcome to FixYa! If you have overheating problem, it can lead to multipleissues. You may be running on low coolant that's why the vehicle overheats. Ifthat's the case, please add coolant and make sure that it sits on the rightlevel, too much coolant can cause overheating too for coolant will overflow. The vehicle may have a faulty or worn out radiator blowermotor that's why it overheats. If that's the case then you will need a blowermotor replacement to resolve the issue. If the radiator is clogged with dirt and rusts this issueoccurs too. The coolant doesn't flow normally on the cooling system if it'sclogged. If that's the case, I strongly suggest that you have the radiatorflushed to drain out dirt and rusts. If you think that the radiator served youenough then it's better to have it replaced. Please do check the radiator hoses, If you have worn outhoses it can cause coolant leakage which can result to overheating. A tiny holeis good enough for the vehicle to overheat. A faulty thermostat sensor can cause the issue too. If youhave worn out thermostat, the fan may not trigger that's why the fan won't workwhen under stressed conditions. A blown radiator blower fuse can cause thisissue too so I suggest that you check the radiator blower fuse and replace itwhen necessary. What causes the radiator blower fan fuse to blow? It's becauseof a failing radiator blower motor, If that's the case have the radiator blowerfan motor replaced. If the fluid in radiator doesn't circulate then it meansthat you have a blown head gasket or a faulty water pump. I suggest that you gofor the water pump replacement first specially if you think that it's near theend of it's service life. Usually, water pops out the radiator when engine isreved (a sign of faulty water pump and possible blown head gasket). Hope you find this information helpful enough and thank youfor using FixYa! Have a good one!

Car overheats while coolant is full

Check to see if the electric radiator fan works, run the car and turn on the a/c on high to see if the radiator fan comes on. If it doesn't come on then check the fuses and relay to the fan and wire harness to the fan. Check the radiator it self, check the out side to make sure the heat exchange finns are not plugged up with winter mud and dirt, and the inside look clean and corroded or plugged with rust.
If that is ok then change the thermostat and the hose, a soft hose will collapse and restrict the flow of antifreeze. The last cause would be a bad water pump and not pushing the antifreeze as much as it should.
Good luck and hope this helps.
