1998 GMC Jimmy hood release cable broken

How do you replace the hood release cable for a 1998 GMC Jimmy? I have the new cable but at the firewall there is a rubber insert that must come off. How do you remove this and feed the cable through?

Jeff

Remove the cable from the latch and any hold downs or clamps. Push the rubber gromet through the fire wall into the car. Remove the handel assy. and pull
the cable assy.out through the fire wall. Now, if the
gromet can be removed. You can decide if you wan't
to put it back from under the dash, or under the hood.
Whatever is easiest for you, but if it can't, it has to go
back from under the dash. Hope this helps.
Good luck.

2000 gmc jimmy throttle cable is broken how do I fix it?

The only fix is to replace cable. Fairly easy, there are plastic "tangs" that need to be depressed at the firewall. This will release the cable so it can be pulled through. Follow the cable thru to the pedal. It is just a matter of disengaging at the pedal and at the throttle body connectors. Pay close attention to the cable routing, as incorrect install can be detrimental to operation!

Interior hood release broke out around mounting bolt. Temporary mounted release but still can not release hood. No opening problems until now. How do I get the open?

If just the mounting broke & not the cable also, take a pair of vicegrips or good pliers on visible portion of steel cable & pull inward. If the cable itself is not broken it will pull out enough to open release.

2001 GMC Jimmy question. My hood release cable just snapped when tried opening it. Is there any other way to pop open the hood??

You need to bend a hook in a coat hanger and then try to snag the cable end from the front of the truck, just below the hood.If you know someone who's truck you can look at[any chev or gmc truck] it will be easier for you to figure out.You may possibly have enough cable left inside the truck to get a pair of vise grips on,that would be easier.

Where is the blower motor located on a 98 Jimmy?

On my 1998 GMC Jimmy it is under the hood on passenger side on firewall behind the PCM (black box) which is mounted on top of coolant overflow bottle. You'll have to remove these two items for better access or at least the PCM. Then you have to cut the moulding on the blower motor housing. You should see a groove already formed all the way around the housing and this is where you have to cut. Just don't cut all the way as you have to reseal it with caulk once you are done installing new motor.

1998 gmc k2500 5.7l hood release cable stretched. Cannot open hood

You can temporarily fix this if this solution will work:
disassemble the hood release in the cabin and pull the cable until the hood latch opens. Then you can remove or adjust the cable as necessary.

TPS in a 1998 GMC Jimmy

the tps is ususally at the side of the throttle body opposite where the throttle cable / tv cable mount.
sometimes it won't start, run, or run erratically. there are ways of testing this unit (by output voltage) before you commit to buying a new one. to test it you will need a dvom (digital volt ohm meter).

just a note: straight from the book... "a broken or loose tps can cause intermitten burst of fuel from the injector and an unstable idle because the ecm thinks the throttle is moving."
