Re: window relay on 1998 ford taurus clicking sound
Check the fuses in the car under the dash on driver side ,only other thing it could be is the power wire in the driver door jam could have a broken ground that is one way it would affect all the windows.

There is no way to ever know what a vehicle repair would cost & only a fool would quote a price without first diagnosing the issues AFTER they have things apart The last shop let you down Most window problems are a broken window regulator Could be the switch was worn & was replaced, the relay if there even is one & windows seldom have a relay, they just have a circuit breaker for the motor. The regulator was going & they failed to remove the door panel to check it
It's probably a broken wire. It usually breaks at the flex point of the wiring harness where the door opens & closes. Peal back the outer casing & expose the wires. Your's is the one broken. Solder & retap or use heat shrink wrap. Good luck!
Power windows are wired through their own relay which is usually located in the fuse box. If you don't have faulty switches in your window system I would have the relay checked out.
If you cannot operate any of the power windows and you lost power on all at the one time it is most unlikely that the motors are faulty.
Go to auto parts store its typically a really (10 bux) tell them you need power window relay... the diagram is in 2 places the fuse box cover and the manual (if not in the inner fuse box under dash try the master box under the hood).
If it still doesn't work you might need a motor... but try the relay first
actually you have thought of all but the prob. The track has jumped, making the motor not move the window. Sometimes you can gently slide the window up by hand and then the motor will catch the track and finish rolling the window up
If you are hearing the clicking from the power window relay the only things left would be a break in a wire or a failed window lift motor. If this window only goes down but not up I would inspect the wiring at the door jamb for a damaged wire. If this fails to go either way I would remove the panel, insert test light into the lift motor leads (X2)and actuate the switch, if I get power then I would replace the lift motor. If you get no power in one direction - test switch.
