This is the tappets on the top of the engine ticking cause they havent got any oil yet. When you first start it take a few secs to get the oil to the top of the engine...It is a warning of impending trouble, but it may or may not be quite a ways off...

My 2002 grand prix goes from cold to hot when first started, then goes to normal. Now it ticks loudly at first then goes away. Could it be the thermostat?

Could be.
If the engine goes to hot say 5 minutes after starting then back to normal, the thermostat could be slow to open, or you could have air pockets in the cooling system.
The ticking is lack of oil or oil pressure, or a worn out bearing or lifter inside the engine.

I have a montero 2002 and its milage is 76000 mile.i used to put for it 10/40 oil.but today i changed to 5/30 as i was adviced and as the manual said.but now it is producing ticking noise from the engine

The ticking noise you are hearing is coming from the valves its not a big problem and the thicker oil may make the noise go away. Try using 10W30 oil if the noise still doesn't go away your valves may need to be adjusted which is recommended to be done at 60,000 miles anyway. Have a good day.

Experiencing a "ticking" "knocking" type noise when 1st starting the car in colder weather that goes away once the blazer warms up , any help ?? I was told it could be the exhaust manifold , or piston...

it may need a lifter or valve adjustment when cold they will tick or knock depending on how loose or worn out then when it warms up they swell with heast and noise stops. after adjusting or replacing it will stop making noise

Mitsubishi mirage 1.5 dohc, ticking noise when started from cold, goes away after 2 mins??

If it's not a loud ticking noise, it could be your lifters or valve pushers, which would mean your oil is too thick to get there when it's cold. Change your oil viscosity to a lower indice (if it's 10W30 go with 5W30 for example) and let me know what happens.

Loud ticking noise on startup

I would have you oil pressure checked. The oil pump or bearings could be going out. The lifter noise on this car usually will go away faster then 5 minutes. I think the noise is lasting a little to long.
