you will have to locate the "learn code" button on you garage door opener. Press and release that button, then, within 30 seconds, press and hold the button on your vehicle and it will grab the code. If its a dip switch style motor then you can use an existing remote. take the remote inside you can and hold the button down while pushing your vehicles button and it will grab the code.
Depends which kind of garage opener you have. But generally, it goes like this:
In car, press and hold 2 outer buttons on overhead console until indicator lights start flashing.
Hold desired button you want to program garage opener with until lights begin to flash rapidly.
At the garage door receiver in the garage, press the "learn" button. (Mine was located under one of the plastic light covers; it is purple in mine, can be other colors, but should say "learn button" or something similar) If I recall correctly, the light next to the learn button started flashing after I pressed it.
Quickly go back to the car, and press and hold the desired button and the garage should close.
This is generally easy. Although you have not mentioned the brand, the system in the car and most cars is made by HOMELINK and they have a great website where you can go to find out how to program almost any car , etc with any garage door opener.
First , since the car is not new, hold button 1 and 3 on the car's overhead console continually for about 30 seconds. The lights will be on solid , then flash, then eventually go out. This erases any old codes. Then select your hanset position and a corresponding position on the cars pad. Lets say button 1. Hold your handheld remote to the overhead console and depress button 1 on both devices while watching the lights flash , fast then slow, then off. Once done the car has received the signal and is ready to open the door. On a door system with rolling codes there will also be a learn button ( Chamberlain, Liftmaster. Craftsman, etc.)on the drive unit in the garage,.This button is used to introduce a new device in "SAFE" mode.
Take a step stool , recah up and press the learn button . Then within 30 seconds push the console button in the car for 2 seconds and release. The openers lights will flash to acknowledge, then push the button in the car again for 2 seconds to test. Last step, retest your hand held to be sure it is still active as well. Post back to advise how you made out
easy.. first hold the 1st & 3rd button above you for like 20-30 secs until the readout flashes.
then.... hold the button of choice along WITH the button of choice on the garage door remote (held within 3" of each other ) until the display flashes fast.
Try to do this away from your house so your garage door opener doesn't freak out with all the button holding.
there are three buttons on the opener.hold the 2 outside ones down for 25 to 30 seconds to erase the program. once the light (if equipped)flash rate changes, let go.
then push any one of the the three buttons and hold it in. and then push your remote. when the flash rate changes, the code is now in the homelink transmitter.the slt and slt plus had that feature.
Learn Mode WARNING: A
garage door opening system that cannot stop or reverse itself after detecting an
object in its path does not meet current federal safety standards. To decrease
the risk of serious injury or death, do not use the universal transmitter with a
door opening system that lacks stop and reverse features as required by federal
standards. This includes any garage door opening system manufactured before
April 1, 1982. CAUTION: During
this procedure, the system that you are programming will be made to operate.

Training will be completed in 100 seconds or less. CHANNEL X TRAINED will be

channel did not correctly train.
NOTE: Additional training may be required for rolling code equipped
devices. For additional information, refer to Rolling Code Programming in this
