1999 saturn with 1.9 engine. trans does not feel like its shifting right, idle stays at about 1700 r.p.m, and i had a code for trans. electrical problem. any hep?

I BELIEVE YOU MAY HAVE TWO ISOLATED, OR POSSIBLY RELATED PROBLEMS.
1. ON THE HARD SHIFTING...WHEN IS THE LAst time you changed auto trans filter & fluid? IF NOT FOR AWHILE...(OR EVER) DO THAT NOW!
2. HAVE CODE READ AT AUTOZONE ENGINE LIGHT OR NOT ON THE DRIVEABILITY

try to reset the computer if that doesnt work reset the idle speed it may have picked up bad codes

the intake manifold gasket at the #1 cylinder shifts over and causes a vacum leak which causes a high idle and sometimes a p0157 code with the ses light,,,,you will need to replace that gasket like a $500job,fairly involved,,,,with the car running spray water DIRECTLY at the #1 intake port area the one closest to the belt and see if it runs rough,,,,

run scanner for codes

THE IDLE SPEED SENSOR SOUNDS LIKE IT IS FAILING. THE IDLE SPEED SOLENOID CAN PREVENT THE TRANS FROM SHIFTING AT DESIGNATED RPM'S. THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR WORKS IN CONJUCTION WITH THE IDLE SPEED SENSOR TO TELL THE COMPUTER THE DEMAND FOR FUEL AND THUS SHIFTING THE TRANS AFTER THE RPMS HAVE REACHED ALMOST REDLINE. cheak your fuse box for a bad fuse.your fuse for your fan might be under the hood our to the right of your stick and down.if you cant find it just unplug your ac under the hood and push ac in your car to use your fan.if that does not work email [email protected]

I would take the vehicle to a local auto parts store that will put there scan tool on the car to find out what code was stored. Maybe they will have some possible parts that could be the problem.

I also have a 1999 sl2 saturn . I was having about the same problem but mine also did not want to go into reverse somtimes as well . Ichanged my fluid and filter and put in a good trans conditioner and just about all my trouble went away. The trans filter is just like a oil filter it just screws on the outside of the transmission . It is located down under the air filter housing, and the fluid plug is right on the bottom of the trans.

Try pulling the engine coolant temp sensor, They often crack not sure why but the ceramic tip cracks makes the car hard to start, the car's idle may race while shifting gears, and often smokes. The sensor is on the right side of the engine when looking at it on the head. Easy to change and get too

hey if you truely think it is your egr valve unhook it and if that is the problem then when it is unhooked it should run better and the codes should not come up. hey if you cahnged the 1 o2 sensor and not the other you probably made the code for the one u repalced come up again. i would recommened that you change both of the o2 sensors at the same time. try checking if your catalatic convert is plugged. how you do this is take a dollar bill and hold it at the end of your tail pipe while it is idleing and if the dollar bill stays still you have a plugged catalatic converter.
