Identify which belts need to be replaced. If you are replacing the air conditioner belt, you may need to remove the alternator belt because of the way the belts are shared on the crankshaft pulley. As a result, some mechanics recommend replacing both belts together.

  • Step 2 Loosen the lock bolt for the belt you are replacing using owner's documentation. The lock bolt will be near the belt tensioner component.
  • Step 3 Turn the adjustment bolt to change tension on the belt. When the belt is loose enough, slip it off.
  • Step 4 Use your memory or a belt routing diagram to install the new belt on all pulleys.
  • Step 5 Adjust the adjustment bolt to replace tension on the belt. Tighten the lock bolt.
  • Step 6 Make sure the belt is correctly seated on all pulleys and that the ribs fit into grooves on the pulleys.
  • Step 7 Run the engine and check for any flapping or looseness that could indicate incorrect installation.
  • This was copied from the service manual.

SOURCE: is there a special tool needed to change the serpentine belt

There is a special tool for removing your serpentine belt. It is a long thin bar designed to get in those tight spots. Most auto parts stores have these bars. Good luck. please rate my answer as a fixya!

    SOURCE: serpentine belt replacement

You will only need to locate the fan belt diagram to replace it on correctly and a 1/2 breaker bar or ratchet to back off the tension er while replacing belts check the tension-er bearing if it feels ruff when you turn it replace it. Check water pump also to see if it turns smooth same with the alt.

SOURCE: HOW DO I REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT ON MY 2.8 V6?

joecoolvette must not ever been near an A4 Audi. Although his outline of the serpentine belt change is correct, you can't get to on an A4. Check out AudiWorld Tech Articles, Chris Hansen has a nice post there on Serpentine Belt Tensioner Replacement that would address most of this question.

What do I need to release the tension on the serpentine belt on a 2007 Uplander 3.9 v6?

    Chevrolet Uplander Model Years - 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
Most vehicles do not need a special serpentine belt tool, but rather a 1/2" breaker bar and a socket on the serpentine belt tensioner to relieve the tension from the belt.

Do I need special tools to change water pump on 2005 cadillac cts

    1. You'll need a tool to release the tension on the serpentine belt and when you need to put the belt back on. Regular standard socket wrenches will suffice for the rest.

    Change belt

You'll need a special tool to release the tension on the belt. Once you have that , apply pressure on the bar to move tensioner enough to slide the belt off.

Changing the serpentine belt on an '02 nissan sentra

usually with a serpentine belt the trick is the tensioner. You need to be able to move it to release and replace the belt. the only other thing is the routing of the belt. several special tools are sold to move the tensioner. some are long bars with different types of attachments and some a ratcheting bars with the same attachments. Sometimes you can do it with a standard retchet but not always. Wish i could be of more help maybe you have a harbor freight in your area and they sell an inexpensive one you can use. good luck

How to change belt on a 98 pontiac bonniville

You are asking how to remove the serpentine belt on your 3800 engine ?
First, I would take several pictures so you know how it goes back on.
    1) * You must have a special idle pulley tool. Take you tool and pry the idle pulley enough to remove belt, dispose of old belt.
    2) Now place the new belt on the pulleys just as you see in the pictures you took or look at the diagram on the radiator support.
    3) Pull the idle pulley again with your tool and put on the belt.
The idle pulley will put the tension in the belt.
Please let me know how it went.

My serpentine belt broke, because the pulley where my ac is broke. There is a small metal guard on the outside of the pulley that went bad first, then the whole pulley itself went bad.

most likley the bearing in the ac clutch went out . on that year of a car you may be able to find a used ac compressor . you can change the ac clutch but there is some special tools you will need for that . u may be able to get from autozones loan a tool program

Can you tell me how i change my supertintine belt on my gmc envoy and do i need a special tool?

No special tools are required to change the serpentine belt on your Envoy. You just need to lift the belt tensioner from the belt. All that is required is a 1/2" breaker bar and the corrent socket to fit on the tensioner.

    Adjust tension on fan belt

Your '90 Benz has a belt tensioner that is automatic. You just insert the correct tool to ease the tensioner pulley, (The tool is inserted into the bracket for the tensioner pulley), to the left as you're facing the car. Then slip your serpentine belt off. Reinstallation is a reversal of this process. (I believe it's to the left, don't quote me on that)

The radiator support in front, should have a diagram of how the serpentine belt goes on the pulleys.

If your serpentine belt slips, then the belt tensioner pulley assembly is bad, needs to be replaced, or the serpentine belt itself is worn out.
