I have a 98 Montero Sport with low rpm engine stalls...
I have a 98 Montero Sport which has had a recent tune-up, oil change, new air filter and a new fuel pump installed. My engine starts up fine and drives well but stalls repeated times at low rpm's... and all of a sudden powerfully bursts forward because I've had the gas pedal pressed when stalled...what could be wrong??

modern engines- rockers arms don't need to be readjusted- they have hydralic lifters- if ticking loudly- you might need to change oil- either it is starting to break down or milage is high enough on vehisle to step up one grade during warmer weather
It's probably not your air filter, but that is located at the end of the big hose on the right side under the hood, it looks like a big box. It sounds like it might be the idling sensor.
Considering what has been done, the problem sounds like a fuel issue. Do a fuel pressure test, it should be 47-50 psi with vacuum line pulled off fuel pressure regulator. If low replace filter and try again. If still low replace pump. Please make sure to rate me when done. Thanks
hi there. the reason that the engine idles good when the air-con is engaged is that ussually all vehicles nowadays have a vacumm advance mechanism. this is triggered mainly by a electric solenoid valve which is also attached parallel to the source supplying power to compressor. a small vacumm hose with a diameter like a common pencil or ballpen case. its made of rubber and it runs from the alternator vacumm pump then to the solenoid valve and to the vacumm advancer unit attached to the injection pump throttle. this system raises the idle a tad higher.
if your montero runs completely normal and you experience no other problems with your engine except for your present problem, then the solution is just raising the idle a little higher. if your montero is equiped with a RPM guage on the dash, try adjusting the idle to around 800 rpms. it would be healthier for your car if the idle raises a bit when you engage the air-con because this would compensate for the added load on your engine.
the engine compensates for the load try turning up the idle screw also check the ignition system you might just need new wires and or cap rotor or your coil is bad also plugs
My 96 Pajero SWB 3.0 would loose power as soon as i accelerate. It feels like the spark plugs are miss firing or if the engine was flooded.
I did a general service which included oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs i checked my O2 sensor, dissembled and cleaned throttle body and sensors. Cleaned air intake sensor as well as the distributer etc.
Problem not solved, still loose power when i accelerate....can it be something wrong with my ECU??
My A/C control isnt working at all. Found a 15Amp fuse that was blown but when replaced it shorts again. Where can i get a wiring diagram of the heater/a/c system for my vehicle model?
