This is what i have found. There is a pigtail that runs from the brake switch to a connector that is mounted above the steering column and then to a wiring harness block located below the dash. In the Tahoe i was working on it appeared that the repeated applying of the brakes worked one of the wires (the orange one) in two. IE. bend a wire coat hanger back and forth and see what happens. I spliced the wire back together and the lights worked again.
Try checking the fuse first. If it's ok there is a brake light switch on the steering column under the dash, or on the master cylinder under the hood. If it is on the column check that the wire isn't loose or the switch came loose. You should be able to unplug the switch and take a short peice of wire and jump it between tne connectors. There should be only two wires to it. If the lights work change the switch.

first thing I would suggest is replacing one of the bulbs to see if they are both just burned out.Other than that it may just be a fuse
