TAKE IT TO NOONE ELSE BUT A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM RUN A DIAG GIVE YOU AN ESTIMATE. I LOVE THOSE OLD CHEVY ASTRO VANS I HAVE HAD 3 OF THEM. The power for the data link connector is from a 25amp fuse Number 7 in the IP fuse box. As long as the check engine light is on the computer has power. The main computer power is from two ECM fuses in the box near the battery. The fuse locations should be in the back of your owners manual.
These recurring check engine lights can really be a pain. Have you scanned for trouble codes? Sounds like it may be an O2 sensor, but we really need the trouble codes to be sure.
This is gonna sound stupid but when you turn the key to the on position engine not running does the battery light come on? If not check the bulb in the dash as it acts as a fuseable link in the system.
Has the 'Check Engine' light come on? I had this problem at 30,000 miles and the trouble codes set were transmission component slipping. Ultimately required replacement of the transmission.
