There are a couple of possible problems Carole.
First one is there may be a blockage inside the heater core causing poor flow of the coolant from the engine which gives you the heat.
If this is the case the core will need to be flushed out or possibly replaced.
Second problem may be the door that is supposed to move inside the heater box that changes the air flow from cold to hot may not be working properly. The controls may be defective or the door is seized.
Because your heater in the back is working well the thermostat and the coolant level should be OK.

2000 pontiac montana blows cold air but does not heat up

Check your flapper doors and blower/ducts for clogs or problems.
Also the cooling system thermostat could be stuck open. Auto heaters have a tiny radiator heater core that uses hot engine coolant to warm the cabin air.
That all has to be working in order to get heat.

Where are both heater cores located on a 2000 pontiac montana

Front heater core is roughly center of dash near the floor in the heater/a/c housing. The rear heater core is on the drivers side at the rear of the van under the plastic side trim and once you remove that ,it is in the rear heater/a/c housing. Both are hard to get at,so make sure you need to change them.

I suggest you try one of those instant download manuals. My nephew bought one for me when my car broke and we could fix it all by ourselves with the manual costing $10. This website reliable-store.com is very good for this.
?Try it.
