1999 Grand Prix GT 3.8 won't start. It cranks but never fires up. It has new plugs and wires. I guess I'm wondering before I buy a fuel pump would it actually be the problem? I took the cover off from inside the trunk and put my middle part of the back seat down and turned the key on and only heard a clicking sound. That's not good is it?
Testing fuel pump pressure an doing fuel pump electrical circuit testing should be done rather then guessing . Could have electrical problem that mite make one think it was a bad fuel pump . A couple simple test's to confirm , before replacing an finding out it didn't fix the problem .
Testing Electric Fuel Pump Problems with Voltage Drop Test
Plus the fuel pump is controlled by the PCM - engine computer via a fuel pump relay .

Is the security light on? If you have spark and fuel, it should run. Any codes? Could be bad crank sensor or cam sensor.

I suppose that if you want to fix it the fast and easy way without fixing your relay or wiring problem, running a new circuit would work, but should have fuse for sure and relay would be helpful. Not hard to do if you are doing shadetree mechanic work, but a body manual for your car would show all the harness and connections, wiring diagrams etc. Hope this helps you, Rick

If you replaced the fuel pump then there is a possibility that during the job then some debris from the tank and/or filter got loose somewhere into the fuel system and is in your lines. It could even be a very tiny speck of gasket material, old or new.

It should be located on the outside of the frame rail, forward of the right front tire. It should look like a ceramic type ballist with a pigtail and one bolt holding it on. If the pigtail has a connector dont forget to check for water, rust, etc. also check for wire damage. It should be the culprit though since by jumping the relay you are in theroy bypassing the resistor. I hope this is correct I didnt have time to pull a diagram and look at it but I am pretty sure this is correct. Thank you for your vote and comment. I hope this helps, good luck my friend.
