You could have set an EVAP code and this will correct itself, If the problem was fixed. I would take it to a parts store and have the codes checked. Go from there. If it was an EVAP code don't buy a gas cap. They all try to sell you something. As far as driving with the light on. as long as it is not blinking on and off. you can drive it. If the code is not an EVAP code, then you need to take it to a garage and have it thoroughly checked. Again don't just replace something because there is a code. Many things can make a certain code set. Any other questions let me know

Think this is your malfunction indicator light -indicates a problem with the emission control system. Generally caused by lose or missing gas cap. Make sure when putting gas cap back on that you turn it (tighten) so that it clicks three (3) times.
Tighten *at least SIX* clicks. Wait three engine on-off cycles. Light should go off.
If it does not go off, the cap may not fit tightly enough for a proper seal. Replace cap. Occasionally, the threads in the filler necks can be damaged, preventing the cap from being properly tightened.

You should not have a maintenance light, as those appeared on the 1998 model Accords and up. My old 1996 Accord had an indicator in the gauge cluster which showed either green or red. To reset it, if you looked beside the indicator, you would see a slot to put your key in to reset the indicator.
Did you change the gas cap with a Honda gas cap? Tighten it at least three clicks?
Also, Honda recommends that you never top off the tank when getting gas (only go to the click-off of the pump; otherwise you can get back flow into the system that will cause the code).
Tightening or replacing the cap will not immediately cause the light to go off; it can take up to three days of driving for the light to reset.
To check if your readiness codes (emission system) are set, turn the ignition to ON (II), without starting the engine. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp will come on for 20 seconds. If it then goes off, the readiness codes are set. If it blinks 5 times, the readiness codes are not set.
You can, of course, try resetting your engine light to see if it will come back on (which it probably will). I believe the procedure is: Turn off the engine. Press and hold the Select/Reset knob (odometer) in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II). Hold the knob for approximately ten seconds until the indicator resets.
The manual for your Accord indicates the following:
This indicator comes on for a few seconds when you turn the ignition switch ON (II). If it comes on at any other time, it indicates one of the engine's emissions control systems may have a problem. Even though you may feel no difference in your vehicle's performance, it can reduce your fuel economy and cause your vehicle to put out excessive emissions. Continued operation may cause serious damage.
If you have recently refueled your vehicle, the cause of this indicator coming on could be a loose or missing fuel fill cap. Check the cap and tighten it until it clicks. Replace the fuel fill cap if it is missing. Tightening the cap will not make the indicator turn off immediately; it takes three driving trips.
If the indicator remains on past three driving trips, or the fuel cap was not loose or missing, have the vehicle checked by the dealer as soon as possible. Drive moderately until the dealer has inspected the problem. Avoid full-throttle acceleration and driving at high speed.
Hope this helps you find the problem.
Are you over filling and is your gas cap tighten fully to where if it is loose it will throw a code.Your fuelsystem is pressurize and if your fuel cap is loose it will not perform correctly..Or if your over filling the tank that could also cause that problem..
Make sure the gas cap in on TIGHT. The cap may be on snug, but make sure you turn it until you hear at last three clicks (indicating the the cap is TIGHT).
