Battery completely died after car sat for over a month. Hooked it up to a battery charger for a few hours. Went to put key in, alarm goes all crazy, lights flashing, horn honking, etc... Remove key, all continues. Only way to stop is to insert key to "On" and press brake. End up fighting it for a while before it finally stops. Car will not start, nor disengage from Park. Red button located next to steering wheel blinks during this. Tried the insert key to "On", press/hold red button 3-9 seconds, turn key Off, release button. However, the red LED never goes solid as expected. Assuming this is an alarm issue as radio, AC, etc. all work, but car will not send ignition. Any advice?

First use a battery charger to charge the battery, instead of a jump start. Second, with a complete dead battery you may want to pull the connection for the horn under the hood till the battery is completely charged.
You will burn out your alternator if you keep on doing this. The alternator is not a charger. If you have a dead battery you should always charge it overnight on a charger. To keep the battery fresh all that you have to do is disconnect the terminals.Yes this is normal because the car has clocks and alarms that drain power even when the key is off. If you let the battery set to long while it is drained it will not take a charge.
When alarm goes off,put key in ignition and turn, the alarm should go off and alarm should be reset.Or,remove positive battery cable, wait 10 minutes, reconnect, when you open door, alarm will sound, insert key in ignition and turn key and alarm should go off and alarm should be reset.
It sounds like the car's security system is going off. Is there a key fob to lock/unlock doors and turn on alarm? If there is, connect battery, and immediately press alarm/unlock button to turn alarm off. I have a truck with an aftermarket alarm system installed by the previous owner, my battery died, and when I hooked up a new one the alarm went off, and it took a while before I hit the key fob button, but it stopped it. Let me know if this works for u.
