There are 2 types of cable used. Auto Adjust...and Manual Adjust. Either are easy to fit. Remove tray over foot=pedals will allow you to access one end of the cable. Here the cable simply hooks over the pedal linkage. Remove the outside plastic panel in front of windscreen to allow the cable to be installed. If the cable is the Manual Adjust type, loosen off the adjuster nuts at the clutch lever on the front / side of the gearbox and pull out cable.
If car is fitted with Auto Adjust cable...A Plastic Retainer Strap will be installed on the cable at the gearbox end. This retainer should be latched into place before removal. If the cable is broken at present you need not bother with this retainer. A new cable comes with this retainer already fitted. Its simply a matter of fitting the cable in place at both ends and then releasing this retainer. Do NOT release this until the cable is fully installed at BOTH ends

My mirage won't change gears and feels like there is no clutch

Could be a worn out clutch or a failure of hydraulic if clutch is hydraulic . Check hydraulic fluid levels if hydraulic clutch if low and leaking master cylinder for clutch needs to be checked. Check clutch cable at wirewall in engine bay if cable driven. I have seen a car that had a surclip holding the cable and if the surclip broke the clutch cable did not work as it moved as it was used.

Freelander clutch

check out the operation of the clutch system .IT is difficult to rationalise a hydraulic clutch because if it is slipping that means that the pressure plate is being held off and not fully engaging but it also means that when pressing on the clutch the there would be no problem changing gears . But if you have a cable clutch operation then it is possible that the cable is jamming inside the outer cover and holding the pressure plate off ( slipping) and gear problems. If it is cable then replace the cable first. If hydraulic then it may mean box out for a new clutch kit.

How to change clutch

before you go ripping the gear box out check out the clutch action as a clutch will slip if the compensation port in the clutch master cylinder is blocked . If it is a cable clutch the same results occur when the inner cable shreds and jams in the outer cable.

Are you sure you installed clutch plate facing right way? They are either stamped or have a tag says "flywheel side". Or might have wrong clutch kit.

Scenic dificult to change gears would it be clutch cable sretched or would it need replaceing

i doubt it will be the clutch cable but either the clutch is worn or what is more likely is the clutch cable adjuster, the clutch cable adjuster can be found where your clutch pedal is, it is prudent to replace the cable and adjuster at the same time,

Renault clio clutch adjust

If the problem is just a clutch cable (clio 55 plate should be cable, not hidraulic), you can adjust or replace the clutch cable quit easily.

If the problem concerns instead the clutch disk, then you will need to put a car up on a bridge, empty the oil and fluid, and remove the clutch that is attached on the engine, on the right lower side.
This is usually not a job for home repair.
